PROFESSIONAL / CLINICAL To collect routine blood from patients as and when required. To maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the service. To deliver blood samples to collection points/or the laboratory at specified collection times. To report any inadequate supplies of materials for the smooth running of the service to the Unit Manager/Housekeeper of that area.

To be part of a team whose aims are to provide the best possible service within the constraints placed within the discipline. To foster a high professional standard and to liaise with other disciplines and departments (MDT) as required under the direction / agreement of the Unit Manager / Sister on duty. To avoid any behaviour which discriminates against your fellow/potential employees, or patients on the grounds of their sex, sexual orientation, marital status, race, religion, creed, colour, nationality, ethnic origin or disability. To behave in a manner which ensures the security of NHS property and resources.

To abide by all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures. To maintain to follow trust values and beliefs at all times in relation to patients, relatives and trust staff members. ADMINISTRATIVE / MANAGERIAL To liaise with Nursing and Medical staff of the hospital with respect to the smooth running of the phlebotomy service and encourage good staff communication. To report any inadequacy in the Phlebotomy Service to Unit Manager.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT To undertake training as deemed necessary by the Unit Manager. To assist in the induction/supervision of new members of staff.To assist with the training of nursing staff in venepuncture, when required. To participate in the Trusts annual Personal Development Review process (appraisal) KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS The post holder will have good communication skills The post holder will have skills to communicate complex information to Nurse in Charge. The post holder will contact patients, relatives, carers on the instruction of the nurse in charge if required to do so.

The post holder will demonstrate an awareness of Trust policy in relation to Infection Prevention. Following appropriate training and assessment of competence,and should the needs of the clinical area require this, carry out specific skills at the request of qualified nurses / doctors. Assist with moving and positioning of patients, including the appropriate use of aids, whilst demonstrating an awareness of health and safety issues.
