Happydays UK provides intensively supported, shared accommodation for homeless men, or males who are at risk of homelessness. We also provide properties for people who are independent or have made the transition to independence but can access light touch support.

Building a community is at the heart of what we do, whether this is in our intensively supported accommodation or our move on sites. Our Housing and Engagement Support Workers proactively engage the whole community to improve the lives and aspirations of our residents.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Help in setting up a Residency and a Home**
- Assess referrals and complete face to face assessments, prioritising need whist considering compatibility with the current community dynamic
- Use your knowledge and skills to perform background checks prior to any placements
- Provide clear and concise expectations at assessment, ensuring full understanding that the Licence Agreement is linked to engagement with meaningful activities
- Have strong IT skills and the ability to process Housing Benefit claims accurately
- Liaise with DWP to update Universal Credit claims
- Facilitate house meetings which may include conflict resolution
- Plan weekly support meetings with the residents on your case load, which will feed into quarterly support plans and risk assessments
- Keep accurate and up to date written records
- Follow and keep up to date with safeguarding policy and procedure, implementing them when necessary
- Ensure adherence to GDPR protocols and guidance

**Emotional Support, and Advice**
- Assist with referrals and appointments with partnership agencies, including recovery, medical, mental health and counselling
- Co-produce a bespoke programme of weekly activity with each resident, to address mental and physical health needs, recovery (if appropriate) and general wellbeing
- Encourage each resident to integrate within the community by working with our Volunteer Co-ordinator and accessing training and volunteering opportunities
- Provide a weekly programme of activity that enhances the wellbeing of residents via resident group work
- Use de-escalation strategies and conflict resolution, when required
- Always maintain professional boundaries

**Developing domestic skills**
- Motivate the residents to keep their communal and personal environment clean
- Provide basic advice with regards to acquiring a healthy living lifestyle, and make appropriate referrals where necessary
- Assist the resident to plan and do their shopping
- Provide demonstrations of healthy eating on a reduced budget via cooking groups or 1:1 sessions

**Advice, advocacy and liaison: help in managing finances and benefit claims**
- Complete monthly / weekly budgeting plans with residents to work towards independent living
- Facilitate groups or 1:1 sessions to ensure the residents understand financial obligations when in their own tenancy
- Address weekly top-up charges and ensure the residents do not fall into debt as per the Licence Agreement
- Refer to specialist debt management agencies where appropriate
- Liaise with DWP and ensure that financial stability is maintained, and any issues with their claim are addressed immediately

**Accessing move-on accommodation**
- Provide advice to residents about accessing move-on accommodation, and realistic expectations about the rental market and LHA rates
- Follow through with any offers of accommodation and support residents when they are going through the transition of moving home

**Help to maintain the safety and security of the resident’s home**
- Perform monthly health and safety checks of the properties and report any defects to Health and Safety staff, ensuring H&S standards and regulations are met
- Carry out room searches where Licence breaches are suspected and report any concerns to management
- Encourage residents to report repairs to staff
- Observe fire risks and assessments with residents

**Housing Management**

**To maximise income**
- Ensure Housing Benefit claim is in continuous payment, and address any concerns
- Provide Welfare Benefit advice to residents and liaise with DWP
- Liaise with our Finance Manager with regards to rent and income
- Assist Happydays with income generation through fundraising and external events

**Voids management**
- Take action to expedite the letting of each room.
- Ensure vacant rooms are at an acceptable standard for letting.
- Regularly check the state and condition of each property and report back to the organisation
- Renew furniture and equipment as nee
