An exciting new opportunity has arisen for 2 year fixed term Consultant Community Paediatrician post - come and join our team at Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust. This is a key position reporting to the Clinical Lead and the Operational Service Lead for for Children & Young Peoples Medically Led Services, based in the central area of Norfolk.

The post holder will join a team of eleven consultants. The post holders commitments will include routine community paediatric work including neuro-disability, the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders and play an active role in the support of the service for Looked After Children and Safeguarding.

The post holder will be based at the Norwich Community Hospital in Norwich but will also work from both the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and other venues within central and West Norfolk. We also have a base in the west at St James Clinic and from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

There are opportunities with our organisation to be involved in research, audit, clinical ethics groups and to attend grand rounds.

All applicants should have MRCP/MRCPCH and either be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of the interview.

Principal Responsibilities

Clinical

The post-holders commitments will include all routine aspects of community paediatric work; neuro-disability and management of children with long-term conditions, management of children who have developmental disorders and additional needs and participation in the assessment and treatment of children who have neurodevelopmental disorders including ADHD and Autism.

The post holders will be part of the within-hours safeguarding on call rota providing assessments of children who are at risk of harm and working in close collaboration with partner agencies to provide professional opinions and advice. The service for children who may have experienced sexual abuse has largely moved to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).

All applicants should have safeguarding training to at least Level 3 and additional safeguarding expertise is desirable.

Personal and Professional Development

The post holder will be required to keep him/her-self up to date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the trust through the appraisal and revalidation processes.

There is an active programme of continued professional development (CPD) between the two paediatric departments including the Norfolk Paediatric Education Group (NPEG) which runs a monthly educational meeting in a rolling programme covering all aspects of paediatrics and which is video-linked to neighbouring hospitals.

Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, post graduate training activities, relevant CME course and other appropriate personal development activities.

Clinical Governance

The post holder will be expected to contribute to clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities that are required by the trust and external accrediting bodies.

**Input to existing management structures**:
Clinical governance, patient safety, drugs and therapeutics, child death reviews, safeguarding, R&D, HR all require consultant input to committee and other related work. The appointee will be expected to contribute with colleagues to this work.

Management

The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust’s management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the Trust’s resources are finite and that all changes in clinical practice and workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have proper agreement from the Trust.

He/she will undertake administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the running of the clinical service under the direction of the lead clinician and or directorate head.

It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be able to work at any of the Trust locations and in addition to work at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital if required. They will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams both within the trust and also with partner organisations including Norfolk Childrens Services, the Norfolk Constabulary and the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Norwich.

Teaching and research

The Community Paediatricians have an excellent relationship both with the University of East Anglia (UEA) Medical school and also with the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH). Active participation in both undergraduate and post graduate teaching is an integral part of the post holder’s everyday activities.
