An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Exercise Physiologist to join our clinical team within the Cardiac Rehabilitation service.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. We are looking for Exercise Physiologist’s with Specialist knowledge or BSc in Physiology Sports Science or equivalent.

You will be well-motivated and have at least 3 years clinical experience at Band 5 within a Cardiac setting or previous Rehabilitation experience. It is desirable to have experience of clinical audit and participation in research.

You will have a clinical caseload within the cardiac rehabilitation team and assist and support the clinical rehabilitation team in delivering new and innovative clinical services by implementing research into clinical practice.

The post holder will be multi-site based within University Hospitals of Leicester NHS trust which will include working at the Glenfield Hospital, The Leicester General Hospital in the National Centre for Sports Science Medicine (NCSEM) based at Loughborough University and Aylestone Leisure Centre and New Parks Leisure Centre.

Provide highly specialist advice and support regarding all aspects of cardio-respiratory Disease and other cardiac conditions, and other relevant respiratory interventions and treatments to patients and their families and carers and support.

Provide health education to groups of patients and individual patients. To ensure that appropriate, consistent realistic information is provided to patients and families. To provide sensitive and complex information to patients, families/carers, sometimes hostile, and highly emotive atmospheres.

Be responsible for the development and evaluation of individual exercise programmes for both hospital and other settings (leisure centre/university/digital/home). Ensure that all cardiac rehabilitation classes (as per caseload) are delivered to the highest standard in line with BACPR/ACPICR/NACR guidance.

Ensure that all cardiac patients (as per caseload) are appropriately assessed and risk stratified according to national guidance and policy, including exercise capacity testing (incremental and endurance shuttle walking tests).

Accountable for own actions in accordance with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). To maintain and develop clinical expertise by attendance and participation of post registered education as identified by BACPR and BASES.

Effective communication with community based colleagues and other allied health professionals.

- Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the patients and carers and multi-professional team, within their specialist service.
- Work alongside other specialist nurses / allied health professionals and other unregistered staff to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service within the cardio-respiratory team.
- Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the service/speciality.
- Deliver high quality, clinically effective care, and patient experience, utilising research an in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
