Gloucestershire Counselling Service (GCS) are recruiting for a Ontology Seminar Tutor. The module sits within the second year of our Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and aims to support the development of what constitutes and constructs the sense of self. The module draws from disciplines of philosophy, spirituality, religion, the arts, science and politics to explore the experience of being human and encourage exploration and reflection. Within this module the tutor is to encourage and model a variety of presenting methods which help bring the topics alive, including the use of PowerPoint, thought-provoking exercises, games, film clips, poetry, music, craft materials, and the latest scientific research. Throughout the year trainees will present on various themes and facilitate group discussions and explorations of the topics being covered. Experienced and qualified psychodynamic counsellors or psychoanalytic psychotherapists (BACP, UKCP, BCP registered or equivalent).

A teaching/training qualification is desirable (e.g., BACP Accredited Trainer; PGCE; Cert.Ed. or B.Ed.) but not essential.

To be a practicing accredited psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist (BACP, UKCP, BPC or equivalent professional body).

Evidence of working with groups, either in teaching or through clinical practice

Experience of facilitating enquiry & discussion in a learning environment.

Experience in academic writing at Diploma Level.

Awareness & interest in a wide range of topics such as history, religion, spirituality, politics, philosophy, science, society, culture, difference & diversity.

Experience of and adherence to the BACP Ethical Framework of Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Competent IT Skills

An up-to-date awareness of the legal & regulatory requirements within counselling and psychotherapy

Understanding & adherence to the law regarding copyright and plagiarism, knowledge regarding accurately citing sources for intellectual material used in the curriculum.

Empathy, genuineness, warmth and a non-judgemental attitude when teaching and relating to trainees.

Willingness to embrace the virtual learning environment.

The ability to facilitate experiential learning with a flexible & creative approach.

Demonstrate the ability to assess trainees appropriately within a framework

Self-management skills including organisational skills and time-keeping.
