**About us**:
University College London (UCL) and the British Library are pleased to announce the availability of a fully funded Collaborative Doctoral Studentship from 1 October 2024 under the AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Partnership Scheme. This research will examine the importance of documenting provenance for archived oral history collections by exploring the value of records of provenance to archivists and oral history researchers, and how making such records available to researchers could enhance understanding of oral history interviews and the historiography of the discipline.

**About the role**:
The student will have privileged access to this material for their research. Using the collections at the British Library as its foundational basis, the project will examine what value these administrative records have as records of provenance, and how making such records available to researchers could enhance understanding of oral history interviews and the historiography of the discipline.

The student will undertake provenance research for a select number of case study oral history collections - to be chosen by the student to suit their interests, with guidance from the supervisors - which will include conducting their own oral history interviews with oral historians, archivists, librarians and researchers, with a view to examining the archivist’s and archive’s role and responsibilities concerning contextual records about oral history collections.

The student may also have the opportunity to conduct case study research for collections held at other institutions and archives. This project will generate research that can inform best practice for both existing and future deposits in the Oral History department and across the British Library’s collection areas, and through the networks and relationships of the Oral History department and UCL:DIS generate discussion within the UK’s oral history and archives communities about the relationship between collection items and information relating to their provenance.

**How to Apply**

**CLOSING DATE**: Monday 8th April 2024
**INTERVIEW DATE**: Wednesday 15th May 2024

**About you**:
Applicants should have or expect to receive a Masters-level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience in a professional setting. Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to, archive studies, oral history, public history and digital humanities. Equivalent experience might include, but is not restricted to, a strong track record of employment in an archive, library, museum, or heritage institution, that includes responsibility for oral history collections, archival research, collections curation, and/or public engagement activity.

**What we offer**:
The PhD studentship can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis. AHRC CDP doctoral training grants fund studentships for 4 years full-time or part-time equivalent. AHRC CDP doctoral trainings grants also make provision of funding for student development activities to help the student extend their wider skills portfolio and improve their career prospects.
