**The Staff Canteen** is a leading specialist media business and we are looking for an experienced and creative Multi Media Journalist to join our innovative team.

The Staff Canteen is the UK’s largest network of professional chefs, with over 100,000 members, 550,000 social media followers. Products include: website, app, social channels (**YouTube**, **Facebook**, **Instagram**, X (**Twitter**)**, Snapchat, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads), job board and 30+ live events every year. Our fast-growing team is leading the way in cross platform chef networking and content.

**Responsibilities**
- To generate ideas and material that can work across all platforms in order to maximise impact and efficiencies.
- To find and brief contributors for live and edited stories and in some cases interview them for broadcast.
- To watch or listen to news footage, our competitors social media and log accurately what is important or useful, in order to tell a story through edited highlights.
- To develop original ideas for digital content. To build on and promote a proactive “News desk”
- To write news items from press releases or other sources, getting supporting quotes where required.
- To ensure that all written content is fact checked before being published.
- To publish news items where required.
- To ensure that the written and graphic content is signed off by interviewees when required, making sure to request recipes and images in a timely fashion.
- To write regular features - interviewing hospitality professionals over the phone/online or in person when viable, ensuring the content is SEO friendly, informative and appealing to our members
- To assist in creating, maintaining and executing a planned content and SEO strategy throughout the calendar year, ensuring that all content is delivered in a professional manner and on time.
- To attend and participate in weekly team meeting.
- To assist in the development, implementation and management the content and social media strategy.
- To stay up to date with the latest best practices and technologies within the realms of digital content and social media.
- To assist in the monitoring SEO and user engagement and suggest content optimisation
- To communicate with industry professionals and influencers via social media to create a strong network
- To work collaboratively within the company
- To look for innovative ways to keep The Staff Canteen as a leader in its field
- To create and edit rich media in Canva and/or Shotcut for use with content where required.
- To create member profiles and add user generated content when required
- To proof and add recipes to the website and app when required
- To ensure interviewees, sponsors and PR representatives are contacted when their content goes live.

**Essential skills & experience**
- A qualification in journalism, communications or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in journalism for a digital platform.
- Strong communication skills with excellent writing and editing abilities.
- Hands-on experience with MS Office, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
- Excellent interviewing and fact-checking skills with attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms, digital marketing tools and best practices across all channels.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to be a team player.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of media ethics and legal standards for journalism.
- Understanding of SEO and web traffic metrics, including GA4
- CMS experience
- Excellent multitasking, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to think outside box to generate creative and innovative content ideas
- Good time-management skills
- Willingness to learn, take on new challenges and be proactive in pushing the company forward
- Willingness to travel; confident in attending live events and interacting with clients and members

**Desirable skills and experience**
- A knowledge of the hospitality industry and an interest in food

Pay: £26,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
