This role sits within the newly created Assurance, Strategy and Improvement Service Area of Adult Social Care.

We are looking for an exceptional Head of Strategic Safeguarding to drive the quality and improvement required in readiness of the new CQC inspection regime, as well as making a commitment to continual improvement ‘how we do things’ in Adult Social Care. The post holder will be able to be flexible and collaborative in their approach; retain a sharp focus on quality, performance and continual improvement, provide support with complex and high risk issues, and co-ordinate and contribute to multi-agency and strategic programmes of work.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Safeguarding, Quality and Workforce, and working alongside the Principal Social Worker, you will lead and manage the Strategic Safeguarding Adults Unit which ensures that statutory safeguarding duties are fulfilled, performance improvement is ongoing, learning and development requirements for internal staff and external partners are met, provides management for the Independent Safeguarding Adults Board, and is the Supervisory Body for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards in Islington (for which there is no backlog), as well as overseeing all MCA related duties.

You will chair and co-ordinate multi-agency high risk and complex case/incident meetings ensuring that appropriate actions are taken and that there is excellent communication and collaboration across different partners and stakeholders. You will provide and present complex briefings, performance data, improvement plans and actions plans for senior leaders, court, and members.

You will lead on the consultation and implementation of safeguarding system, process and practice change as a way of ensuring continual improvement of staff’s and residents experience of safeguarding and improving safety and outcomes for people.

This includes the maximisation of digital solutions, taking a proactive role in engaging and influencing partners across Health and Social Care, and the private and voluntary sectors, to maximise opportunities to enable adults to live independently and exercise choice and control over their lives.

You will ensure a strengths-based approach permeates decision making at all levels, and that a culture of reflective learning and improvement is developed and embedded.
