**REDENS ALPACAS - Herd Management**
We are looking for someone with experience in animal management, who can adapt easily, with a friendly disposition who flourishes working on their own and in conjunction with the owners.
Redens Alpacas is an established Alpaca business in West Sussex which breeds top quality black alpacas that we sell as breeding males and females to advance the genetics in the UK alpaca herd. We show our alpacas to demonstrate their quality and sell them for breeding or trained for alpaca trekking and we also sell some castrated males as pets. In addition we sell out alpaca fibre after the annual shearing and produce some of our own alpaca têxtile products. Our herd is around 130 alpacas farmed on approximately 40 acres of pasture.
We require a herdsperson to work ‘hands on’ dealing with the day to day husbandry and general welfare of the herd involving, feeding, worming, vaccination, toe nail trimming, birthing, halter training etc. This also involves cleaning their bedding area and collecting their poo from the fields. It is a fascinating job that varies between manual work, interacting with vets on health issues to looking after new born cria. It requires someone who enjoys being outdoors in all weathers at all times of years and who also has a great empathy for animals. Experience with alpacas would be ideal but it is not essential as training will be given, however experience of working with animals is essential. We are looking for someone who has an empathy with animals and who has the ability to sense when things are not right.
The herdsperson should be able and willing to accompany us to the important Alpaca shows and play a part in exhibiting Redens Alpacas. They should also be able and willing to visit our clients and help them with routine husbandry tasks if required.
The selected applicant needs to live locally and a driving licence is essential.
