Job purpose
The Systems Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, management and monitoring of all Linux and Windows services. On premises systems are being moved to the cloud, primarily AWS. Working as part of the Systems Engineering team you will ensure the 24/7 availability of our mission critical content processing services.

Reporting To
The Systems Administrator will report to the Head of Technology.

Key Responsibilities
Operations
- Manage and monitor all systems infrastructure and virtualisation, including Linux and Windows servers and desktops and Mac desktops for on-site and remote workers
- Manage the transition of on-premises systems to the cloud, primarily AWS and virtualisation platforms for local and remote users
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Provide 2nd and 3rd level support
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
- Participate in the design and implementation of new systems infrastructure using appropriate technologies to provide an effective match to performance, cost and availability requirements
- Ensure effective planning and stakeholder communication on all changes - new implementations or upgrades/updates
- Manage all systems related issues, resolving within agreed SLAs or escalating within the Problem Management Framework
- Collaborate with third parties to resolve critical problems
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Work with Software Development to build and maintain continuous integration and deployment processes
- Move towards automated Cloud deployments using Terraform and Kubernetes
- Meet or exceed industry security standards. Active participation in security audits, penetration testing, etc.
- Ensure all systems are appropriately patched and monitored including active reviews of log data for potential threats
- Closely collaborate with other technology functions to ensure our technologies enable MPS to achieve and surpass its goals

People Management
- Lead and coach the team
- Conduct regular 1:1’s, quarterly feedback sessions and yearly performance reviews for Direct Reports
- Establish goals and key results for the team that deliver both programmatic and departmental impact
- Focus on developing team members’ soft and hard skills with a goal of elevating performance through active, actionable feedback
- Foster a culture of openness, feedback and communication at all levels by both providing and seeking regular feedback from colleagues, peers and employees
- Identify current and future training and growth opportunities for Direct Reports and engage direct reports in proactive and long-term career pathing discussions for all individuals within the Technology team

Leadership
- Provide leadership, strategic direction and management for colleagues, peers, and direct reports, and support the development of cross-company collaboration, innovation, and drive for excellence
- Coach and mentor team performance, and drive continuous improvement, fostering a culture of openness, feedback, and communication at all levels by both providing and seeking regular feedback from colleagues, peers, and employees
