The opportunity has arisen to become part of the Cheshire & Merseyside Endoscopy Hub working as a Clinical Endoscopist across both our Warrington and Halton Hospital Sites.
The Clinical Endoscopist will be expected to perform upper and lower GI endoscopic examinations autonomously providing research based expert and holistic care and advice to patients with colorectal and upper GI concerns.
Trainee Clinical Endoscopists will be considered for this post at a Band 7 level with a view to progression following successful accreditation and completion of the nurse prescribing course.
- To carry out six clinical sessions, two admin sessions: to include protocol development, one cross cover session (as required) and one audit session.
- To perform diagnostic & therapeutic gastroscopy/flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy independently drawing on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision making to determine evidence based therapeutic interventions. This will include obtaining informed consent before commencing endoscopic procedures.
- To autonomously perform endoscopy including gaining full informed consent from the patient; performing polypectomy and biopsy of abnormal mucosa.
- To make initial diagnosis and arrange patient follow up accordingly.
- To document findings in endoscopy reporting system.
- Participate as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care to all members of the ward team.
- Work within national requirements for Nurse Endoscopy as set out by JAG and the BSG, ensuring mínimal procedure numbers are performed and that JAG/GRS key performance indicators are in line with recommended minimum standards. This is to include maintaining JETS reports online.
- To complete the Non-Medical Prescribing course and prescribe only within the limits of the non medical prescribing scope of practice document. This will include registering this role with the NMC, a need to audit own prescribing practice and evidence of continued professional development within prescribing.

- To assess patient suitability for sedation using the agreed protocol.
- To cannulate and administer IV sedation to the relevant client group under a Patient Group Directive.
- Ensures the correct advice is available and given to patients and relatives /visitors to the department with regard to control of infection.
- Initiates emergency treatment where necessary and co-ordinates other staff in this process. Use their professional judgement to manage complex and unpredictable care events, to include completion of the ILS course as part of the JAG requirement.

Demonstrates a full understanding of requirements for ordering, receipt, storage and administration of all type of medication. Has oversight of issues and risks associated with medication administration and systems in place to address them.
