**What is the purpose of this job?**

Shape the industry’s strategic direction by advising, developing and leading the rail industry and it’s stakeholders’ approach to reducing the negative impacts of transporting football fans on the rail network during match days. It is required to identify, develop, gain support for, deliver, and evaluate multiple workstreams while influencing and working closely with a wide range of senior industry stakeholders.

The purpose of this project is to keep passengers and staff safe, make a positive and measurable difference in the passenger experience, and improve the reliability of train services.

**What can I expect to do in this job?**

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:

- Take the lead on assessing, developing, and obtaining agreement from the Football on Rail Strategic Group on the priority workstreams for delivery within the 12-month project timeframe.
- Manage multiple workstreams within the overall project
- Identify and seek support from key industry stakeholders, ensuring that there is buy-in to the project outcomes and investment in people resource where needed
- Use the RDG Project Delivery Framework from project initiation to close to ensure the project stays on track, risks are managed, governance is effective and regular reporting is completed
- Be the strategic lead to Identify, assess, and build on opportunities that may have not been considered, utilising knowledge of rail operations in the planning and management of rail services
- Work with industry stakeholders to get and keep their attention and motivation on the benefits and positive outcomes of partnership working on this issue can create
- Using your technical knowledge and experience to represent RDG and industry in working with DfT to review rail operational processes associated with event management
- Work with industry stakeholders to implement and ensure any changes are sustainable within their organisations
- Lead on development and agreement of KPIs for how success will be measured and ensure data is collected and presented

**What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?**

We are looking for someone with detailed operational experience of transport service planning in the context of large-scale events where there is pressure on service capacity

Some of the sort of specific skills and knowledge we are looking for include:

- Outstanding and proven relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to lead, influence and motivate, including very senior people from across the industry
- To be able to act and respond with agility and adaptability: if things don’t work or change to be able to learn from it and take an alternative approach
- To be innovative and creative: this is a topic that has been an issue for a long time and needs fresh thinking and approach
- Excellent decision-making and critical thinking skills: the role will require decisions to be made on the future direction of the industry on this issue: the ability to make reasoned and balanced decisions through clear and rational thinking is critical
- Excellent negotiation skills: to be able to lead on finding a way forward when stakeholders may not agree on a position or approach
- Proven Project Management Skills
- Understanding of the impacts of change on well-being and resilience, and techniques to respond
- Great at articulating the value of change and associated plans and activities
- Provide an inclusive working environment
