Ward Clerk, Band 2
Permanent - Full Time - 37.5 hours per week

As a ward clerk you will be expected to provide comprehensive clerical support to the PICU ward, enabling the effective and efficient delivery of mental health. This will include responding to telephone calls, taking messages and handing over information accurately and in a timely fashion. You will respond to our patients in an honest, non-judgmental and open manner. You will consider how you feel patients would want to be looked after and cared for, whilst also reflecting on whether you would want a friend or family member to be cared for in this environment. It is therefore very important to demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities for everyone.

You will effectively provide and implement core operational administration functions, for example undertaking word processing, undertaking photocopying, distributing post, maintain accurate databases and records as directed by the Ward Manager and undertaking scanning of information onto RIO, to ensure ward team/service information requirements are met for the assessment of care needs for all of the patients.

We will expect you to always respond to patients in a sensitive manner, with regard to their age, sexuality, culture, race, gender, ethnicity, religion and disability.

We will expect you to carry out all of your ward clerk duties with a high regard for patients’ privacy and dignity, making sure you do not make judgments that may affect the rights of any individual or group.

We will expect you to work effectively as a team member by ensuring that the full range of administrative and clerical duties are undertaken to a high standard in support of clinical colleagues.

We will expect you to understand the importance of the implementation and administration of the financial systems for the ward team and to undertake duties relating to client’s money, property and valuables in line with Trust policies and procedures.

We will expect you to communicate effectively and actively engage with patients, carers/relatives, other health care professionals and managers of the service.

You will always need to liaise with other departments within and outside of Oxleas in relation to provision of transport and ordering supplies and other items for the ward.

You will be responsible for logging maintenance concerns on the ward, following up and ensuring the ward is in good working order, for the well-being of patients and staff.

You will be responsible for the provision of administration tasks on the ward, making suggestions to improve or enhance. Processes or systems as appropriate.
