**Overview**

Rare is an Xbox Game Studio creating the kind of games the world doesn’t have. Our values - explorers, evolving, together - are fundamental to the games we make and how we make them. Rare offers rewarding and fulfilling careers for exceptional people, supporting you to learn and grow. Our studio is a welcoming campus in the heart of the Midlands, where the majority of our team work in a flexible hybrid work pattern.

**Responsibilities**:
**Role Purpose**

At Rare, game designers are custodians of the vision, taking responsibility for features and content.

Designers guide and drive experiences through each stage of development, ensuring players are always at the front and centre of their decisions.

Designers are hands-on, using the most appropriate tools to empower development. They are as comfortable building content in Unreal as documenting features or pitching an idea to the team.

**Key Accountabilities**
- Ensure that features and content are designed and implemented in line with the vision and principles of the title.
- Prove game concepts through prototypes, game content, and documentation.
- Be the player’s voice - ensuring other team members are empowered to do their best work and are able to create the most engaging experiences possible.

**Qualifications**:
**Required Skills and Experience**
- Proven experience in professional game design.
- Experience in Unreal Engine 4 or 5 specialising in blueprint and/or state tree creation.
- Experience creating feature specification documentation.
- Knowledge of game mechanics that foster non-aggressive, non-competitive experiences.
- A passion for playing games and learning new things.

**Desirable Experience**
- At least one or more shipped title(s) on current gen platforms.
- Experience working on CCC mechanics in a third person title.
- Experience authoring NPC AI or creature AI behaviour.
- Experience building multiplayer mechanics for open world titles.
- Experience with quick prototyping in engine and on paper.
