**Internal Auditor**

Do you have an enquiring mind? Do you like problem solving?

We are looking for someone to join our Internal Audit team who is enthusiastic and conscientious, with an understanding of risks and controls, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Whilst we do audit financial processes, there is not a lot of figure work involved and you will find yourself auditing a range of areas such as cemeteries, events, contracts or elections; the work is varied, covering all areas of both councils.

**What you will be doing**
- Carrying out audits to determine the adequacy of internal controls by reviewing documentation, interviewing staff at all levels and testing records
- Writing clear and concise audit reports on your observations and findings and making practical recommendations where appropriate
- Discussing findings and negotiating recommendations for improvement with senior management
- Managing your own workload to ensure that deadlines are met, and your time is used productively and efficiently
- Providing ad hoc advice on risks, controls, policies and procedures

**What you will bring**
- An understanding of the role of Internal Audit
- An understanding of risks, risk assessments and risk management
- Attention to detail
- An ability to evaluate data, analyse results and form conclusions
- An ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing with a high standard of written English and grammar
- The ability to manage your own work priorities using your own initiative
- Common sense and pragmatism

**What we can offer you**

If you have the right skills, then we can provide the training you need to be an Auditor. You will have the opportunity to grow and develop your knowledge and skills as part of a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive team.

**Location**

The councils have recently made the move to a predominantly remote workforce, with home working being the default for most employees**.** From time to time, there will be a need to come into the Lewes or Eastbourne office, or to visit other locations within the boundaries of Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough for some of our team meetings and to carry out fieldwork on specific audits.

**Additional information**

Following the closing date, we will be shortlisting and contacting those who have secured an interview. This is a one tier interview process so we will be interviewing all shortlisted applicants once, and then deciding, as a panel, who to appoint to the role. We are hiring for one vacancy in the Internal Auditor role as part of this recruitment process.
