**About the Role**:
Greensand Surgery is seeking an experienced phlebotomist to join our friendly nursing team, on a part time basis for 10-14 hours per week, covering Thursday & Friday, to provide a full phlebotomy service to our patients.

The main responsibilities include:

- Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample:

- Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures
- Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
- Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
- Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible
- Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
- Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
- Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
- Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
- Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
- Testing of urine samples/transferring of urine samples to ACR collection device in accordance with training and procedures
- Ordering stock

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

- Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
- Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues
- Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient
- Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required

Greensand Surgery is a semi-rural, GMS, practice in mid-Bedfordshire with just over 10,000 patients.

We are a dynamic, hard-working team whose aim is to provide high quality patient centred care. The partnership is supportive and cohesive and we have a full complement of enthusiastic team members. We provide a comprehensive range of medical services for our patients as well as meeting targets for the new contract. The practice consists of three partners and four salaried GPs, a dedicated nursing team, clinical pharmacist, and admin staff.
