The Deputy Head - Wellbeing is an exciting role which offers the opportunity to help lead the School, along with the leadership team, through an exciting period of growth. The post holder will lead on the School’s vision that every pupil feels safe, happy and secure within our education environment, ensuring the highest levels of pastoral care and development of character.
The Deputy Head - Wellbeing will lead on strategies to find the undiscovered talents and skills of every child and ensure that they flourish into well rounded, confident and happy children, ready to embrace learning and rise beyond any target set for them. Your aim will be to develop a lifelong love of learning which is developed through a meaningful, engaging and vibrant holistic education.
The Deputy Head - Wellbeing will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team; whose key purpose is to work collaboratively for the delivery of outstanding education that develops the individual. It is imperative that within the role you have thorough knowledge and understanding of whole school operations.
This job description indicates the range of duties involved is not intended to be all-inclusive and requires the post-holder to be flexible and show initiative. The post holder may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the school.
The Deputy Head - Wellbeing is required to:
**Leadership and Management**
- Lead on all matters across the school in relation to wellbeing and welfare of pupils and staff.
- To foster effective relationships with School parents and children in relation to individual pupil performance, behaviour and wellbeing.
- To take an active role on personal development and wellbeing for children and staff in the School, ensuring:
- all members of the School community understand the School’s ethos and high expectations, such that all can prosper in a happy and supportive environment.
- respect and cooperation are encouraged at all levels.
- community cohesion is promoted by motivating and leading staff to create a shared culture and positive climate.
- To take an active role on communication with parents of children, supporting the Headteacher in ensuring:
- parental concerns are dealt with effectively
- effective communications and relations with the parent Social Committee
- parents have the opportunity to be proactively involved with the ongoing life of the School.
- To lead as Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC) on a calendar of trips and visits that enhance learning, ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed by trip leaders.
- Attend full meetings of the Local Governing Board as a visitor and any relevant committees, where appropriate. Represent the Headteacher at group and feeder school events when required.
- Contribute to management decisions on all aspects of policy, development and organisation.
- To lead staff training and development and parent workshops, where appropriate.
- To work with the Headteacher to manage the planning, implementation and closure of projects in the School which relate to the implementation of the School’s Development Plan.
- To liaise with others in United Learning schools, Central Office and beyond to share ideas and develop best practice in leadership and teaching.
- To support the daily running of the school in a streamlined and efficient way.
- Ensure that administrative tasks are carried out smoothly, liaising with the office manager for school events.
- To provide challenging and supportive leadership and line management, including appraisal, to allocated staff, motivating them in developing opportunity and achievement for pupils in line with the School’s vision.
**Wellbeing**
- Oversee the pastoral care and the personal development of children in the school.
- Encourage well-being amongst the staff team.
- Produce an annual timetable for assemblies incorporating faith, community, charity, pastoral themes.
- Undertake/lead assemblies as appropriate.
- Support staff when dealing with pupils and parents as necessary.
- To support the Headteacher in mentoring/coaching new staff and trainee teachers.
**Safeguarding and Behaviour**
- To act as the DSL. Attend training, liaise with governors and ensure that all policies reflect the regulations.
- To assist with the induction process of new members of staff with regards to safeguarding.
- To ensure that all relevant training is completed by all staff.
- Monitor pupils’ attendance and address issues of lateness and/or persistent absence, as well as any safeguarding concerns.
- To be responsible for online safety.
- Oversee the general behaviour of the school.
- To lead a behaviour system which is based on positivity and high expectations.
- Monitor the standards of behaviour across the school reinforcing policy and best practice.
- Monitor the appearance of the children and deal with all matters relating to school uniform.
