Job Introduction

As the Test Team Lead for TV certification team, you will lead the tester engineers in the TV certification team to contribute to delivering a world class TV platform experience to millions of audience members every day. An intuitive and engaging product experience is integral to the audience’s enjoyment of the rich content that we offer and the sense of value that they get from the BBC.

Reporting to the Test Manager and working with others in the Test Leadership group, you will be responsible for recruiting, managing, leading, setting direction and co-ordinating test across a group of partnerships test teams or a programme of work. You will also be responsible for managing, coaching, and mentoring 6+ direct line reports by supporting and helping them to develop their strengths and invest in their talents.

Our Partnerships teams works towards creating those engaging experiences that strengthen BBC Brand, and provide those compelling journeys into BBC ecosystem, that provides great ‘value for all’. In the process of achieving this, we work closely with all UK platform and major global TV device partners to ensure that our audiences have a high-quality product experience available to them, on the widest range of certified TV devices.

Main Responsibilities
- Accountable for the design and implementation of test strategy across teams that provide content metadata for our products.
- Ensure that your team has the right mix of skills, resources and capabilities to deliver the test strategy.
- Recruit, lead, mentor, coach, develop and manage 6+ test engineers embedded in multidiscipline teams in various locations.
- Grow and mentor the technical skills of test engineers and create development opportunities for them.
- Drive the development and maintenance of automation frameworks and scripts aligned with Partnerships Metadata strategy
- Ensure close collaboration and sharing cross site with product teams in iPlayer and Sounds.
- Provide test and technical expertise to stakeholders at all levels and collaborate in appropriate engineering decisions.
- Own testing across product catalogue teams, partner support and cross collaboration with other partnership teams.
- Shape adaptable test processes for various catalogue and syndication solutions for various partners.
- Advocate and work with agile and lean development and testing principles.
- Encourage and instigate continuous improvement to ensure testing processes and practices are effective.
- Represent test and provide support when liaising with internal and external stakeholders, manage stakeholder relationships.
- Plan and prioritise the workload of your team and deal with escalations and priority calls.
- Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies and help introduce them where appropriate.
- Work with other test leaders in the broader organisation to share best practice, standards and contribute to test engineering initiatives.
- Support Test Manager in resource recruitment.
- Experience of leading test engineers - designing and implementing test approaches and shaping test processes in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in people management, including recruiting, leading, mentoring, coaching, and career development
- Experience of innovating in testing technology and processes.
- Knowledge and experience of automation testing frameworks and development frameworks.
- Experience in testing and working with Broadcasting platforms and IPTV technologies.
- Experience in working with TV platforms such as Virgin Media, Sky, Youview, BT & FVP
- Leadership and collaboration inside and beyond the team. The ability to influence diverse and senior stakeholders effectively.
- Consulting and client management skills including a track record of good relationship management including motivation, collaboration and influencing or internal and external stakeholders
- Expertise in agile software development methodologies including behaviour and test-driven development.
- Expertise in problem solving and providing creative solutions.
- Good written and spoken communications skills; comfortable engaging at all levels in the organization.
