The Dell Care Home near Lowestoft opened in 1996 and has seen various improvements to make it into the 40-bedroom home you see today. Meadow View near Wellingborough started out as a private Victorian house but was repurposed as a nursing home, established in 1986 and has been heavily extended in three areas into a 53-bedroom home. All our homes are in idyllic locations, set in the heart of wonderful communities with amenities close by.

To provide the highest possible standard of care for each resident at all times. A standard of residential nursing care that is second to none in Northamptonshire. We want to create a relaxed, happy atmosphere, welcoming to all who enter our homes. We provide dignified and respectful care to all with full support from everyone.

**Job Overview**:

- Prepare all foodstuff, as directed by the Head Chef
- Assist and execute various kitchen duties such as ensuring cleaning schedules are adhered to
- Assist in the preparation and serving of all meals, on time Liaise with care staff and service users in a polite and person-centred way

**Responsibilities and Duties of the Job**

**Role-specific Duties**

The Kitchen Assistant/Cleaner’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Under the supervision of the Head Chef, assist in identifying items to be ordered from specified suppliers to ensure enough levels of supplies for a catering operation, using the service’s procedures
- Operate an efficient stock control system
- Ensure the equipment supplied is used with care, following suppliers’ instructions and training
- Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any faults immediately. If any machine is felt to be dangerous/faulty, withdraw it from service immediately
- Prepare food items under the guidance of the Head Chef
- Support the delivery and serving of food, if required
- Understand the specific diets identified as required by service users, and share any dietary concerns with the Head Chef
- Be responsible for understanding health and safety requirements
- Be clean, hygienic and well-presented at all times
- Any incidents or accidents are to be reported to the Head Chef, and appropriately recorded and actioned
- Be responsible for promoting and protecting the welfare of those individuals supported by the service

**Working with Others**
- Assist in the induction of new starters per the service’s policy
- Develop effective working relationships with other employees within the service
- Positively work with the Head Chef, and be proactive in identifying duties that need to be completed
- Liaise and communicate effectively with care staff to understand the dietary needs of people who use the service
- Be polite and respectful in any communication with staff, service users or external visitors

**Personal and Professional Development**
- Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management
- Take responsibility for your professional development through performance and development reviews and undertake any relevant training
- Be responsible for understanding the health and safety requirements of the role Understand and follow any relevant risk assessments

**Essential Requirements**

**Specific Requirements for Qualifications**
- Approved Elementary Food Hygiene certificate

**Specific Requirement for Skills**

**_Proficient Written Skills _**
- Ensure accurate, legible records are kept
- Ensure compliance with both statutory and the service’s requirements on food hygiene, storage and temperature control

**_Budgetary Skills _**
- Manage waste effectively

**_Communication Skills _**
- Regularly seek feedback from people and communicate their views to the Head Chef
- Attend regular meetings to keep abreast of views and expectations

**Specific Requirement for Previous Experience**
- Previous experience working in a similar environment
- Knowledge of texture-modified diets
- Experience working with service users who have additional support needs
- Knowledge of health and safety and personal responsibility
- Experience working as part of a team and delivering items with tight deadlines
- Experience working with kitchen equipment and appliances and understanding the risks involved
