Can you spare 4 hours a week?

Are you aged 21 or over, with a full driving licence? Are you keen to help support our patients at Kettering General Hospital access our services?

Our patient buggy service, helps our patients and visitors get around the hospital site dropping them to the nearest appropriate entrance, or at our bus stop or car parks. As a buggy volunteer you offer a vital role to helping our patients and visitors with mobility issues, making it easier to access hospital services.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support Kettering General Hospitals patients and visitors, no experience is required, all training will be provided.

Driving the patient buggy around the Kettering General Hospital site.

Supporting patients to access the buggy, getting on and off (no manual handling).

Undertaking visual safety checks on the buggy prior to driving.

Driving to designated route, and ensuring rear site is relocked at the end of shifts.

Ensuring buggy is returned to the buggy base, and placed on charge at the end of each shift.

The duties and responsibilities listed below are not intended to be exhaustive, volunteers are required to adopt a flexible approach to meet the needs of service requirements.

Assist our patients/visitors to access areas/services of the hospital

Assist patients/visitors in getting on and off the Buggy (steadying hand only, no manual handling), ensuring that the seatbelt is secured before starting the journey

Ensure that seat belts are worn at all times whilst the buggy is moving

Drive the designated route only, using buggy collection / drop off points, driving at a walking speed

Be courteous and considerate of other ‘road’ users

Undertake visual buggy safety checks before all shifts, report any faults immediately, and do not take any passengers until repaired or advised it is safe to travel.

Return the buggy to buggy base at the end of every shift, and place on charge, ensure rear site route is relocked.
