Monday - Friday 8.00am - 6.15pm (4 days a week)

**Purpose of the job**
- To lead in the development and implementation of a high quality childcare programme for 0 to 5 year olds.

**Principal duties and responsibilities**
- Ensure activities and care are developmentally appropriate in which children from a range of social, economic and cultural backgrounds are able to develop and grow, in particular those with special educational needs and with English as an additional language.
- Ensure the care delivered is in accordance with OFSTED requirements, Early Years Foundation Stage
- Monitor, assess and record and report on children’s development and progress, both individually and in groups.
- Ensure strong links with and the involvement of parents, recognising that parents are their children’s first educators.
- Work in partnership with other early years professionals, for example health visitors, pre-school SEN service, speech and language therapists, Service for English as an Additional Language, ensuring multi-disciplinary approach to children’s care and education.
- Ensure that the council’s child protection policies and procedures are adhered to and that staff are aware of procedures and carry them out. Ensure close monitoring of children about whom there are concerns.
- Assist children with personal care, including help with toileting, changing nappies, feeding, food service and other similar duties.
- Prepare and serve food, milk, drinks and snacks to children, encouraging good nutrition and sociable eating.
- Ensure the nursery’s resources, supplies, books and other equipment are kept in good condition and used responsibly.
- Ensure that the nursery environment is welcoming, comfortable, well organised and uncluttered and ensure ongoing cleanliness of nursery.

**General**
- To work within and promote the council’s equalities and equality in employment policies in relation to service delivery and staff management.
- Ensure that nursery operations are conducted according to the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the Management of Health and Safety and Work Regulations 1999 and all relevant legislation and council policy.
- Adhere to the council’s health and safety policy and agreed codes of practice, and ensure that the nursery’s practice and environment meets health and safety standards.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of the work as may reasonably be required by the manager and owner.
