We are seeking to recruit a substantive consultant to join the excellent MDT on Coral ward.

You will provide clinical leadership for Coral Ward, a 25 bed male acute ward, where you will be responsible for the care of 18 patients, and work alongside Dr Guy Thompson, CD who will be RC for the remainder of the patients.

You will be well supported by 3 junior doctors and 1 full time middle grade, as part of a well-functioning MDT including Matron, Ward Manager, excellent nursing team with fulltime support from OT and Psychology.

Coral is a busy acute ward with a turn over of approximately 28 patient per month and an average length of stay of 26 days.

The ward has a turn over of approximately 15 patients per month, with an average length of stay of approximately 40 days.

The patient caseload of Ash ward is predominantly made up of Psychotic Disorders, Mood disorder and Personality disorders.

Coral Ward offers a comprehensive range of therapeutic groups and activities, and is supported be a clinical psychologist who can offer individual psychological assessments when indicated.

**The post-holder will**:

- Provide consultant leadership to the multidisciplinary ward team
- Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of the mental and physical health for 11 acutely ill adult female inpatients
- Carry out all Responsible Clinician’s duties for those patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, maintaining all care planning in line with legal requirements. These duties will include: assessing patients under the Mental Health Act, capacity assessments, consent to treatment, tribunal report writing, attending Mental Health Act Review Tribunals and Managers’ Hearings, granting Sec 17 leave, revoking CTOs, recommending CTOs, etc.
- Assume clinical responsibility for adult patients with mental illness admitted acutely from community services (All admissions will be gate
- kept by the Crisis Resolution/Home Treatment team)
- Undertake all work in the context of the recovery approach, which is emphasised across the Trust, placing the service user at the center of care planning and decision making
- Attend the ward on a daily basis to review patients, enable facilitation of the care program approach and involve carers when appropriate at each stage of the inpatient stay.
- Provide support and training to other health care professionals and support service users through the care pathway as required whilst working with other teams in the community setting
