Barnsley, United Kingdom Open College of the Arts Full time

**We are now recruiting for an exciting new role to join our Learner Support Team in supporting students with disabilities. This is initially a 12 month fixed term position, open to becoming permanent.**

You’ll be experienced in working with people with disabilities, understanding their needs, and being able to support people to access study. You’ll ideally have a qualification in disability support, or equivalent experience. You’ll work with the team to provide on boarding support, and liaise with colleagues at The Open University to assist students with access to study.

This role works directly with students who declare a disability or long term health condition, to understand how their condition affects them, what barriers there might be to their effective learning, and then working to remove or mitigate those barriers to learning. This will involve working with academic teams to understand the programme structures and how these might be adapted in different ways to support students with a variety of needs.

You will be the Open College of The Arts (OCA) contact for Needs Assessments, assisting both students and third parties in sourcing the appropriate support to complement their learning through the understanding of the OCA curriculum. This involves providing advice and guidance to students and applicants on understanding Disabled Students’ Allowance, the support available, and how to apply.

Working closely with colleagues within Information, Advice and Guidance and the Learner Support teams, you’ll ensure students have appropriate methods to declare a disability or long term health condition as early as possible, and provide advice and support. You’ll also liaise with tutor teams and individual tutors to inform them of the difficulties that individual students may be facing, and discuss appropriate solutions to mitigate that tutors can use.
