We have are looking for an enthusiastic and forward thinking Locum Principal Clinical Psychologist. This maternity leave cover will lead on neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation of people with suspected cognitive impairment as a result of problematic substance misuse across Glasgow City HSCP, including direct input to the city-wide Alcohol Related Brain Damage (ARBD) Service.

You will be based within the Alcohol Regulated Brain Damage (ARBD) Service located in the Parkhead area of Glasgow. This is the only one of its kind in Scotland and has established links to other Centres of Excellence in this field, both within the UK and Europe. The Alcohol Regulated Brain Damage service aims to engage and improve outcomes for a vulnerable and high risk population presenting with cognitive impairment as a result of problematic alcohol use. As such, you will be a member of a small, specialist team and be part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency approach with a specialist team in a bespoke clinical environment. You will be not only be responsible for undertaking neuropsychological assessments, informing rehabilitation plans, but you will also be responsible for the development of a matched stepped care model of psychological therapies (including developing and supporting psychologically informed practice and trauma informed care among the wider team). As such, you will play a central role in providing advice, training and consultation to other nonpsychology staff and will have a key role in supporting colleagues to deliver psychologically and trauma informed care and treatments, where appropriate. You will also play a key role in the direct provision of a high quality, evidence based clinical psychology service, working individually, and (if appropriate) in groups, with clients who present with cognitive impairments as a result of problematic alcohol use.

This role provides a unique development opportunity. Aside from your input to the ARBD service, you will lead on assessment and rehabilitation of people who are suspected to have cognitive impairments as a result of problematic alcohol and other substance misuse. As such, you may provide consultation, supervision and advice to psychology colleagues where appropriate. In this respect, you will be part of the small but friendly Alcohol and Drugs Recovery Service (ADRS) psychology team. This is a well-established psychological therapies service in an integrated health and social care
addiction setting. Professional leadership and development (as well as line management) will be provided via ADRS. ADRS psychology co-ordinate the addictions teaching component and have close links with the Glasgow University Doctorate Course in Clinical Psychology, which you will be encouraged to contribute to. You will be expected to contribute to and, where appropriate, lead on developments in relation to impaired cognition in substance misuse services in Glasgow City HSCP. You will participate in research and audit, in line with service priorities.
You must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist. This post requires PVG scheme membership.
