Newcastle, United Kingdom Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group Full time

**2 Positions Available**:
**Department: Business & IT**
**Location: Newcastle**

**Hours: Full-time, 37 per week**

**Department: Health & Social Care**
**Location: Stafford**

**Hours: Part-time, 18.5 per week**

**Opportunities for term-time only (38 weeks) or whole year.**
**Salary: £26,759 - £29,236 per annum (pro rata).**

In November 2019 Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) became the first further education provider in England to achieve outstanding grades in every area of Ofsted’s recently reformed Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

The inspection report praised all areas of the College’s provision and acknowledged NSCG’s ‘positive, stimulating and safe learning environment’, ‘highly motivated staff’, and ‘learners’ exemplary behaviour and attitudes to learning’. It also highlighted the fantastic partnerships the College has with industry.

The group is currently home to a population of over 5,000 full-time students and around 500 students on higher education programmes. We have over 4,000 part-time or adult learners and 2,000 apprentices where we work with over 800 individual employers.

Personal Tutors will support students and measure the impact of tutorials, through identification of student strengths, aspirations and needs. You will agree and monitor targets to facilitate progress in both academic and personal goals, relative to their starting point. In addition to those with existing tutoring experience, this position would also suit someone currently working in a Teaching Assistant role and/or recent graduates who are considering a career in teaching.

You will deliver a variety of group tutorials that will support the students with their personal development and wellbeing. It is this holistic and varied support that will be crucial to improving students’ confidence in their next steps.

The College considers its tutorial system to be a vital element in the support, engagement and retention of students. As a Personal Tutor you will be a central contact for the student and will actively promote pastoral support from enrolment and right through to the end of the ‘student journey’. Along with the curriculum team, you will enable a supportive transition and induction process through contact with student and parents. This will be facilitated by your use of the College monitoring system.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**:

- To make contact with parents/guardians/carers of tutees within the first 6 weeks of the new academic year and throughout the course, to introduce your role, discuss progress, issues and attendance etc.
- To effectively utilise the College monitoring system to implement appropriate support and take action at an early stage.
- To provide support to students with personal, domestic or social difficulties and where appropriate to signpost them to additional support within or outside the College.
- To promote effective achievement and retention through the target setting and review process using their ILP (Individual Learning Plan) and through effective 1:1s.
- To conduct effective tutorial activities.
- To promote acceptable learner behaviour, attendance, punctuality and progress.
- To liaise with Curriculum and Support Staff and inform the appropriate manager where a learner’s place may be at risk and to ensure appropriate support is in place.
- To prepare references on learners for potential employers, higher education establishments and other bodies.

**Required Skills and Experience**:

- Experience of working in a tutor capacity role or equivalent (Desirable).
- Holds English & Maths GCSE or equivalent.
- Is able to develop a good rapport with 16 - 19 year old learners both in a group situation and on a one to one basis.

**What’s in it for you?**

The college offers an excellent benefits package which includes:

- Employer Pension contributions - up to £7,718 (Local Government Pension Scheme)
- 24 days annual leave per year, rising to 30 following 5 years’ service PLUS bank holidays and Christmas closure
- Electric Vehicle Scheme (Salary Sacrifice).
- Cycle to Work Scheme (Salary sacrifice).
- Subsidised Gym Membership.
- Health-related benefits including a subsidised Health Scheme.
- Excellent Training and Development Opportunities (supported with a dedicated budget).
- Free Parking
- On site restaurant and FREE early morning tea/coffee and toast.
