Podiatry Apprentice

We are recruiting suitably qualified, enthusiastic individuals to undertake a podiatry degree through an apprenticeship scheme running in collaboration with the University of East London starting in September 2024.
The Apprenticeship is four years in duration and on completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in Podiatry will allow you to progress into a HCPC registered podiatry role and remain at the trust as a qualified Podiatrist
Be over 18 years old
Resident in the UK for the last 3 years
Should have GCSE's level 2/Grade C in Maths and English
Successfully completed study at Level 3 including a science.
Podiatrists are registered healthcare professionals specialising in the lower limb (feet, ankles, legs) providing high quality hands on clinical care. Podiatrists work with people of all ages and provide advice, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of problems affecting the foot and lower limb.

A car driving licence and use of a car are essential to fully benefit from all training opportunities.

The Podiatry Apprenticeship combines full time employment, work-based learning and academic study at Foundation Degree Level (Level 5). Apprentices will work in a supported learning environment with our friendly supportive team to develop their clinical competencies and knowledge related to the role of a Podiatrist. You will be patient facing from the start

To work within Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust Podiatry Service to provide clinical care to patients within East and North Hertfordshire.
To gain knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualised treatment plans for a wide variety of clinical needs, including acute or chronic neuropathies, chronic diseases, vascular problems and wound management.
To manage your own clinical caseload, providing treatment for patients referred by a podiatrist.
To implement individualised treatment programs for patients
To provide appropriate education to patients and carers to assist with the delivery of their treatment program and to empower the patient to participate in their self-care.
To gain experience during the period of the apprenticeship in a wide variety of clinical areas including diabetes, rheumatology, biomechanics, tissue viability, nail surgery and wound management.
To provide appropriate administrative duties including completion of the clinical record, clinical monitoring and ordering of stock and supplies, and to ensure patients views are recorded via comment cards and patient surveys.
To provide basic footcare to a delegated caseload including the use of a scalpel after appropriate training.
