**Main Purpose**

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Firefighters at 423 Civil Engineer Squadron, Royal Air Force Alconbury, United Kingdom.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Assistant Chief of Operations in charge of the management and control of one of three alternating 24-hour shifts, supervising all firefighters in fire and emergency situations as well as the performance of care and maintenance of apparatus, facilities and equipment and all associated duties. As an Assistant Chief of Operations on a 24-hours on and 48 hours off duty shift, participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention, firefighting and rescue program of a sufficient magnitude at the installation. Serves as the Incident Commander (IC) at emergency scene until relived by the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief. Supervises fire alarm communication center operations to ensure all firefighting equipment and personnel are dispatched as required. Performs Supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

**Knowledge and Experience Required**:

- Applicants must demonstrate the following:_
- Knowledge and experience of safety and health hazards associated with emergency operations; building construction; fire science and behavior relative to predicting dangerous fire ground environments; personnel accountability systems; incident scene rehabilitation strategies; and the ability to manage incident scene safety per organizational policies and national consensus standards.
- Knowledge and experience in the command of fire, explosion, entrapment, hazardous material, emergency medical and natural disaster response tactics, procedures, equipment, identification, and mitigation actions.
- Knowledge and experience of the theory, principles, methods, techniques, practices and operation of fire department equipment used for communications, firefighting, rescue, and hazardous material operations.
- Knowledge and experience of fire prevention control and suppression methods, principals, concepts, and techniques to independently perform inspections of highly specialized, diverse, and technical industrial materials.
- Ability to formulate and effectively implement firefighting/emergency response plans and to direct personnel in such operations.
- Ability to operate and direct others in operating under stressful and dangerous conditions and formulate and effectively implement firefighting/emergency response plans and to direct personnel in such operations.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct functions and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing,
- Ability to track trends and practices to identify and reduce hazardous conditions and procedures and produce presentations, graphs and reports to support findings.

- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules, and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 12-month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary train.

**Other significant facts pertaining to this position are**:
1. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. Duties may require wear of firefighting personal protective equipment with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and entering environments designated as immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH). Required to participate in a physical fitness program and pass an annual physical. Physical demands include heavy lifting, walking, crawling, kneeling, rapid mental and muscular coordination, climbing, and is required to maintain physical fitness requirements necessary to perform the job.
