The BSL Support Worker Role:
As a BSL Support Worker, you will be supporting pupils across the school who are deaf or have hearing impairments in a variety of capacities. You will be teaching them to communicate with BSL, assessing their needs and formulating a programme whereby they will be able to progress with BSL on an ongoing basis. As a BSL Support Worker, you will also act as a Teaching Assistant for the pupils in your care, supporting teaching and learning and differentiating work to suit their needs and level of ability.
The BSL Support Worker:
To be eligible for this BSL Support Worker role, you must hold a BLS qualification, preferably Level 3. Preferably, you will also hold a Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification, or one similar relevant to the role of BSL Support Worker role. You must be an effective communicator with a strong understanding of SEN, including Autism and ADHD. As a BSL Support Worker, you must also be able to confidently manage behaviour and provide effective pastoral support where required.
The School:
This Ofsted ‘Good’ primary school located in South Walsall caters for pupils in KS1 and KS2 with a mixed intake. There are several pupils with hearing impairments, who the school go above and beyond to support. There is frequent CPD and training provided to ensure standards of education are kept high.
