We are looking to hire an Equine Groom Apprentice.

Jevington Place Stables pride ourselves in the high standard of care we provide for the Equines on the yard and attention to detail and pride in your work is paramount. A passion for working with Equines is essential, and prior experience is desirable, although full training will be given to help the member of staff develop and grow within the role.

**Hours**:

- 8 am - 5 pm with a break of approximately 2 hours over the lunch period (dependent on daily workload).Four working days plus one day college attendance. Days to be arranged dependant on college day**, BUT WILL include one weekend day and one whole weekend to be worked once a month.**

**Holiday** -28 days holiday including Bank Holidays (pro-rata) by arrangement with the Yard Manager (a qualifying period will apply).

**About us**:
Jevington Place Stables has been established since 1995, and is a successful Livery Yard set in the village of Jevington, near Polegate, in the heart of the South Downs, with direct access to extensive off road hacking. The yard caters for all types of Equines, in any discipline, whether that be a cherished pet or a competition horse. We offer Assisted DIY or Part Livery. Other services available include exercising, lessons, clipping, grooming and rehabilitation care.

**What will the apprentice be doing?**

The apprentice will undertake general stable duties which include:

- mucking out,
- making hay nets/feeds
- keeping all yard areas tidy (sweeping, tidying muck heaps etc.)
- turning out/bringing in Equines from the yard/field.
- Handling a variety of Equines, communicating with Clients, and providing assistance when required.
- Holding Equines for Veterinarians, Farriers, Dentists etc., when necessary.
- Assisting senior staff and Yard Manager in all areas of the day to day running of the yard, including basic Equine medical care.
- Exercising/lunging Equines under supervision of senior staff - dependant on level of experience.

**What qualifications will the apprentice recieve?**

The apprentice will receive a Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship qualification, which will include:

- Yard & Field Routines & Duties
- Horse Anatomy, Physiology & Welfare
- Horse Handling Care & Welfare
- Saddlery & Equipment
- Travelling Horses
- Non-Ridden Exercise
- Riding / Non-riding (can choose either pathway)
- English and maths: Apprentices without level 2 English and maths must achieve level 1 and take the test for level 2 before taking the end-point assessment.

Training at Plumpton College will be one day per week during term time.
