**About this Health & Safety Officer job in Canterbury**:

- You’ll join our Environmental Health team’s Hybrid working, spending your time working from home, the office, and getting out around the city to visit sites.
- Enforce the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and other relevant occupational health and safety legislation regarding safety at work requirements
- You will carry out routine inspections of food and food businesses to promote and enforce compliance with food safety, health and safety at work and public health legislation and guidance
- You’ll carry out routine inspections in relation to animal health licensed premises and investigate alleged breaches of the legislation
- Following inspections, you will write up inspection reports and answer correspondence
- You will attend inter agency working groups relevant to the team.
- Working with the Environmental Health Manager, other council departments and external bodies, you’ll work to deliver departmental and corporate targets to implement our corporate plan and achieve the council’s aims.

**Health & Safety Officer’s working pattern**:

- Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
- We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements.
- You’ll benefit from a full week off over the Christmas period, bank holidays off, PLUS 23 days annual leave to use throughout the rest of the year.

**About you, the ideal Health & Safety Officer for the job**:
Your qualifications
- A recognised professional qualification in Environmental Health.
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
- NEBOSH diploma OR an equivalent qualification

Your experience
- You should have prior working experience in a local authority regulatory environment.
- Your experience will demonstrate good communication and IT skills, which will ideally include at least one year working in Health & Safety.

Your knowledge
- You’ll have developed a comprehensive knowledge of Environmental Health, associated legislation, codes of practice and the roles of other statutory agencies.
- In particular, you’ll have a comprehensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.

Due to the nature of this role a Basic DBS check is required.
