Main Purpose of Job

To load & unload vehicles in the container yard, safely and in a timely manner

Relationships

Responsible to: Yard Supervisor Responsible for: Performing daily checks at the start of your shift, operating machinery safely and ensuring the correct containers are available for collection when they are required. Liaison with: Yard Supervisor, other machine operators, HGV drivers, container control staff, Pentalver Managers

Main Tasks of Job
- Ensure vehicles are serviced with the correct container in a timely manner;
- Ensure containers are stacked in accordance with the safe system, in a safe manner;
- Continually communicate with yardmen and container control, to ensure efficient working and accuracy in terms of the correct container availability on time;
- Continually check containers from your vision point for damage and highlight any concerns;
- Ensure hazardous containers are stacked separately;
- Maintain records in accordance with company policy, particularly daily defect sheets;
- Assist and support the reefer department in the department with all requirements where appropriate;
- Ensure you steam clean containers to a high standard in line with customer requirements;
- Ensure the steam cleaning area is kept clean and tidy;
- Observe and understand all risk assessments applicable to your area and the safe systems of work
- Maintain high standards of good housekeeping, ensuring stacks are maintained neatly, the yard is clear of rubbish and the machine you are driving is washed and cleaned at regular intervals
- Maintain health and safety standards ensuring stacks are neat and pinned in accordance with safe systems, always wear required PPE, always look in the direction of travel and pay meticulous attention to your surroundings at all times, whilst doing the same for your colleagues;
- The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.

Key Skills Requirements (knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications)
- Proactive, innovative and creative approach to problem solving
- A mature approach to H&S
- Experience in an counter balance forklift preferred
- The ability to ensure records are maintained, with attention to detail
- Numerical and analytical skills
- A strong team player, encouraging a team working environment with the commitment to drive and support others as required
