Perhaps you see yourself working as part of a close-knit team, maybe you would like to gain skills that others simply don’t have, or you just want to make a difference. Fancy a job that earns you extra money and fits around your work and family commitments? #oncallfire

This is a rewarding role for anyone looking to join Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service. You don’t need to have any previous firefighting experience - just the passion to protect and help your community.

**So, what does being an On-Call Firefighter mean?**

On-Call Firefighters have everyday lives and jobs until their alerter sounds and they become professional Firefighters, responding to a range of operational incidents when required. Being a Firefighter is not just about fighting fires. An important part of today's service is fire and road safety prevention, education and safeguarding. When an emergency does occur, our Firefighters are fully trained and equipped to deal with a range of emergencies. On-Call Firefighters make up approximately 90% of emergency cover in the UK, which makes them an invaluable part of our society.

**They are ready to respond to**:

- fires
- road traffic collisions
- flooding
- other emergency situations

**Essential criteria**:
**You must**:

- live or work no more than five minutes from your nearest station
- have the right to work in the UK
- have good eyesight so that you meet the visual standards
- have a good level of strength and fitness

We are proud that Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is at the heart of our community. 75% of our service is provided by our On-Call Firefighters who provide an incredible commitment across the 31 stations within Cornwall.

Representing our communities and having difference in a team is important, as it creates new ways of thinking through having different perceptions and points of view. It keeps an organisation thriving with ideas and innovation and ensures that every member of our service is engaged and knows they are valued.

We look forward to welcoming you into the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service family
