**Job overview**:
As a Highly Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist you will lead the development, organisation and delivery of the Speech and Language Therapy Service for children and young people with complex needs in consultation with the Team Lead. You will be part of the multidisciplinary assessment team / neurodevelopment assessment team. You will develop service protocols and policies in this area in consultation with managers, and contribute to multidisciplinary policies and protocols within a complex needs caseload.

You will provide a highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment/discharge service for children and carers/families To liaise with a wide range of professional and external agencies to ensure efficient, high quality patient care. You will work alongside community language speakers to ensure equality of service for populations who do not have English as a first language.

You will join a highly supportive team dedicated to continuous improvement in patient care and service delivery and provide clinical supervision and clinical leadership. You will be provided with robust supervision and personal development opportunities in your clinical specialism.

**Main duties of the job**:
Maintain high standard of clinical work when carrying out specialist speech, language and communication assessment/intervention for students with complex needs in the communityl, manage own caseload independently.

Develop and provide enhanced knowledge and skills in evidence based practice in own clinical specialism, provide specialist advice / training to other professionals and Carers.

Ensure compliance with clinical governance framework, demonstrate knowledge of / adherence to professional, national and local clinical guidelines, policies and procedures.

Compliance with continuous professional development to maintain registration with RCSLT and HCPC, identify personal learning and development objectives through line management and performance review framework, access clinical and safeguarding supervision in compliance with local policy.

Provide clinical supervision and line management for staff.

Champion service user experience, contribute to continuous improvement within the team.

- Successful completion of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists recognised training course (degree or equivalent)
- Post-graduate qualification and experience to masters level /Masters Degree
- CPD and experience in complex needs / MDA

**Desirable criteria**:

- Member of relevant specialist interest group
- Dysphagia qualification

**Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience**:

- Knowledge of range of disorders, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and their management appropriate to the post
- Expertise in detailed analysis of assessment and / or diagnostic procedures
- Established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions

- Experience of liaison with other professionals & partnership working
- Evidence of knowledge of SEND to comply with RCSLT guidelines/advice/ complexities
- Knowledge of the issues of working with a bilingual caseload
- Good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance including quality, audit & risk management
- Advanced clinical reasoning skills.
