**About the role**

Our new and exciting young carers mentoring programme, funded by the Greater London Authority, aims at supporting 250 young carers, 8 - 24 to access high quality mentoring over the next two years. It aims at supporting young carers to:

- Improve their emotional wellbeing: young carers identify and understand the issues affecting them as well as the positive side of their caring experience, and the knowledge and skills gained from it.
- Improve their engagement with additional meaningful support: young carers are proactive in identifying and taking part in additional services that support their long-term wellbeing.
- Sustain healthier caring roles: young carers prioritise their wellbeing and gain knowledge and skills to be better able to sustain safer caring roles.

We are recruiting experienced and enthusiastic mentors to work with and support young carers to overcome personal barriers to growth, address challenges associated to their caring roles, school life and overall wellbeing. Mentors are expected to commit to the delivery of eight consecutive weekly mentoring sessions which will be arranged to take place within school venues, with a few exceptions where mentoring will take place online, depending on individual circumstances.

**Responsibilities**
- **Establishing a trusted relationship with the allocated mentees with clear set boundaries from the start.**:

- **Working with the young carer to identify their strengths and weaknesses as well as areas of need where the focus of the mentoring should be set.**:

- Empowering young carers to overcome present barriers, identify solutions and create future coping mechanisms
- Being committed to delivering the pre-arranged mentoring sessions in a timely and professional manner, having planned the sessions and utilizing the appropriate resources.
- Completing the indicated mentoring assessment and session forms and submitting them as soon as possible after each session has taken place, following the procedures established by the Barnet Young Carers service.
- Being committed to attending all training and supervision sessions arranged by the service manager.
- Reporting any safeguarding issues, concerns and disclosures to the designated safeguarding professional at the school as well as at the Barnet Young Carers Service.

**Location(s)**

There is no specific location for our mentors. Most of our mentoring activity is carried out in schools around the London Borough of Barnet. Mentors will need to travel to the allocated location across Barnet. (Travel time will be paid).

**Duration**

Working hours are flexible during term times. Mentoring hours are allocated according to the confirmed availability of mentors. We aim to match mentors with a few young carers, approximately six per quarter.

**Job Type**: Temporary contract
Contract length: 18 months

**Salary**: £13.50 per hour
