We are looking to recruit Highways Apprentices to work from a number of our depots within North Yorkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge skills and competence in the industy with the benefit of support from your learning provider, experienced colleagues and the wider business.

You will gain experience in all aspects of Highways Maintenance and will work towards achieving a Level 2 apprenticeship. This opportunity is offered on a 24 month fixed term contract with potential progression opportunities into Highways Operative roles.

As an Apprentice every day will be different. Not only will you work on a wide range of duties, you will be working outdoors in the variety of different environments and conditions that North Yorkshire offers: from towns and villages to very rural countryside. As a Highways Operative, you will be working as part of a team, and will work alongside some of our most experienced colleagues. We are looking for applicants with good communication skills, have a willingness to work on a variety of tasks and while you need to be able to follow instructions we are also looking for applicants who are keen to learn and demonstrate initiative to help their professional growth.

**Day to day tasks will vary but include**:

- Working safely at all times in line with company policy and current legislation.
- Understand and carry out the instructions being given by the Ganger/Site Supervisor and any other responsible person on site.
- Always comply with PPE policy
- Fully attend and engage with the college course and training you will receive
- Application of classroom theory practically back into the work environment.

The techniques and daily responsibilities you will learn will include to safely carry out repairs and improvements to a variety of built environment infrastructure such as:

- modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping, drainage repairs and improvements.
- You will also learn about traffic management and seasonal maintenance activities.

It is essential you have a** **minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) grades of 9* - 4 (A - C) in English and Maths and be aged 16 or over to apply. Apprentices without this will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and Maths prior to the end-point assessment.

You must have attained or be working towards a full UK Driving Licence.

The apprenticeship starts in August/September 2024 and will involve both practical work within the organisations, as well as theory based learning at the college.

These roles require our employees to operate machinery on the public highway and/or drive vehicle as a regular part of the job.
