**Job Details**

We have a new and exciting opportunity to join the Counter Fraud Service at Suffolk County Council as either a **Counter Fraud Officer** or a **Trainee.** You will be based at our HQ in Endeavour House Ipswich, with hybrid working options including some working from home.

As a **Counter Fraud Officer**, or **Trainee Counter Fraud Officer (Career Grade)**, your work will assist in delivering the Council’s Counter Fraud and Corruption Strategy and Action Plan. This will involve undertaking investigations of fraud, deliver anti-fraud training and communications to staff; and undertaking counter-fraud assignments including data analysis / matching to identify fraud or error.

As a **Counter Fraud Officer**, you will be an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist (ACFS) and/or have significant experience of working in counter fraud and undertaking investigations.

Alternatively, as a **Trainee Counter Fraud Officer**, our career pathway means you will be expected to work with more responsibility as you gain experience, and we will also support you with professional training. The Career Pathway is designed around the Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship utilising a practical work-based approach to training, with direct membership into the Government Counter Fraud Profession upon completion of the two-year course.

**Career Grade Salary**:

- **Stage 1**: Grade 4 - SP 10 - £24,496 per annum
- **Stage 2**: Grade 4 - SP 13 - £26,845 per annum
- **Stage 3**: Grade 5 - SP 16 - £30,151 per annum

**Your responsibilities**
- assisting in delivering the Council’s Counter fraud and Corruption Strategy
- undertaking counter-fraud assignments, including data analysis / matching to identify fraud
- identifying fraud-related risks and weaknesses in existing processes and procedures, and making recommendations for improvement
- investigating and reporting on allegations of fraud, irregularity or misconduct, reaching properly considered, evidence-based conclusions
- presenting findings, which can include potentially sensitive issues.

**You will need**
- an appropriate level of qualifications and experience, which will determine the point at which you enter the pathway
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- ability to collate and analyse large amounts of information and data
- inquisitive mind and able to spot discrepancies/unusual patterns
- ability to remain calm under pressure, dealing with difficult situations and meeting deadlines.

**The team**

The Counter Fraud Service sits within the Corporate Services Directorate and is responsible for investigating allegations of fraud, financial irregularities and misconduct, as well as providing training and advice to prevent and detect fraud. It works closely with a number of teams across the Council, including Legal Services and Trading Standards as well as with other Councils and agencies. Outcomes of investigations are reported to Senior Management and the Audit Committee.
