Bognor Regis, United Kingdom Making Theatre Gaining Skills CIC Full time

**Background**

Making Theatre Gaining Skills is a social enterprise established in 2013 that provides unique training courses in the Coastal West Sussex area. We work with long-term unemployed people who are affected by mental health issues, learning difficulties and other disabilities. Alongside our core activity we run bespoke commissioned projects, short courses and community events. Our method is effective; we can help disengaged learners, enabling them to learn through doing and gain vital qualifications.

MTGS has been in residence at the Bognor Makerspace since October 2020. We currently run a range of courses and projects utilizing a learning room, large fabric and craft classroom, training kitchen and a carpentry workshop. The Bognor Makerspace is a large warehouse which is being steadily developed as a community resource, offering space for a range of creative activities. Since 2022 MTGS has delivered a programme of activities and formal learning sessions to support the Multiply programme.

**The Multiply Programme**

Part of the Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and administered by the Department for Education, Multiply supports the Levelling Up mission to ensure that by 2030, the number of people successfully completing high-quality skills training will have significantly increased in every area of the UK.

Multiply specifically aims to help people improve their ability to understand and use maths in daily life, home, and work. Whether that be improving household finances, helping children with homework, making more sense of the facts in the media, or improving numeracy skills specific to a line of work. Multiply offers adults aged 19+ a range of options such as free personal tutoring, digital training and flexible courses that fit around people’s lives and are tailored to specific needs, circumstances, sectors and industries.

**About the Teaching Assistant role**

We will shortly be starting a new advanced cookery skills course focused on people looking for entry-level employment in catering or hospitality. The 6 week course will include practical cooking skills and also Food Safety and Hygiene. The intention is that all the learners achieve a Level 2 qualification by the end of the course.

**Ideal applicant**
- At least 2 years of experience working in an educational setting (school, college or community setting)
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in Food Safety & Hygiene
- Sensitive to the issues faced by long-term unemployed people, or those with mental health issues or learning difficulties.
- Organised and able to keep to a schedule

**Hours/pay**

£12 - £18 per hour depending on experience. (4 hour session)

Weekly hours are likely to be Monday, 9.00am - 1.00pm.
