Harrogate Ladies’ College was founded 126 years ago and is an independent school with a Church of England foundation offering day, boarding and weekly boarding. The School is a member of the Girls’ School Association teaching boys and girls aged 2-11 and girls 11 -18 years. Harrogate Ladies’ College was deemed to be Excellent in all areas in the ISI inspection of 2017.

We are looking for an experienced specialist to support pupils in College with EAL and to help maintain a whole school strategy which enables each individual EAL pupil to reach and or exceed their potential.

This is a part-time, term-time position, reporting in to the Head of Inclusive Learning at the School.

In addition to an excellent degree and relevant qualifications (including IELTS), applicants should have a strong record as a practitioner. High standards are expected of staff as well as pupils and we all strive to ‘be the best that we can be’.

Part-time (0.8 timetable) which may include flexibility to allow weekend and evening support of boarding pupils. Some reasonable variations may occur each academic year depending on the EAL need in school.

- **Job Purpose**:_

To support the College’s provision for pupils with EAL and to develop a whole school strategy which enables each individual EAL pupil to reach and or exceed their potential.
- **Main Duties**:_

1. To work with and empower all teaching staff to offer the best learning opportunities for all pupils with EAL.

2. To provide, develop and improve the teaching of EAL pupils in both specific classes and individual pupil support.

3. To work on all elements of this, from developing schemes, plans and resources to coaching and observing colleagues and leading INSET.

4. To work closely with the Heads of School, Senior Team, Heads of Department and teachers to implement best practice for pupils.

5. To liaise with parents/ guardians/ agents over the provision for their children and have oversight of any planning meetings.

6. To enhance the development of the purposeful use of ICT in this area in order to improve learning.

8. To liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support and learning when transferring pupils and EAL.

9. Work with Highfield Prep-School when specialist EAL support or advice is required.

10. To assist in the promotion of whole school and departmental policies and to follow the school’s Appraisal procedures and aims.
- **Pastoral Care**:_
- To drive forward a strategy for the integration of all members of the school community with special responsibility for EAL pupils working closely with the boarding and academic staff, including taking the lead on pre-term induction programmes.
- To carry out related pastoral duties in accordance with the school’s pastoral policies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils.
- To attend Pastoral meetings when required and to ensure that staff are aware of the specific needs of our pupils.
- **General**:_
- To participate in appropriate meetings with colleagues and parents to facilitate the above.
- To undertake a share of general supervisory duties in accordance with the school’s organisation of duty rotas.
- To contribute to the School’s extra-curricular programme.

- **Technology at HLC**:_

Harrogate Ladies’ College is fully committed to enabling all girls to access technology to enhance Teaching and Learning, within a safe and secure environment. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) was introduced in 2018 in the Middle School and Sixth Form at HLC. All girls can access their prep and digital resources remotely via the Learning Platform (iCommunity). Staff are expected to be fully supportive of the school’s Digital Strategy, and where possible use technology to improve student outcomes. Computing, projector and interactive whiteboard facilities are available within the department. Computer rooms are situated nearby and can be booked for use when needed

**Qualifications**
- DfE recognised Qualified Teacher Status or qualifications which, in the Principal’s judgement, are appropriate for the role
- Degree or equivalent qualification
- IELTS experience and/or qualification preferred

**Professional Knowledge and Experience**
- Understanding and/or experience of current developments in the secondary curriculum regarding / EAL teaching
- Understanding of current approaches to assessment, recording and reporting procedures at various levels
- Knowledge of the implications of working in a multicultural environment
