The main purpose of this role is to work under the guidance of teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed programmes of work with individuals or groups, in or outside of the classroom. It will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management / preparation of resources.

**Support for Pupils**
- Use specialist (curricular/learning) skills, training and experience to support the children
- Assist with the development and implementation of IPPs
- Establish productive working relationships with children, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children within the classroom
- Support all children consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
- Provide feedback to the children in relation to progress and achievement
- Encourage children to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage them all in activities
- Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and rewards achievement of self-reliance

**Support for the Teacher**
- Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment
- Work with the teacher in lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons / work plans as appropriate
- Monitor and evaluate children’s’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives
- Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to the teacher on pupil progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence
- Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems and records as requested
- Undertake marking of children’s work and accurately record achievement and progress
- Promote positive values, attitudes and good behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with school policy and encourage children to take responsibility for their own behaviour
- Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents / carers as agreed with the teacher within your role and participate in feedback

**Support for the Curriculum**
- Implement agreed learning activities and teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to children’s needs
- Support the use of IT in learning activities and develop children’s confidence and independence in its use
- Help children to access learning activities through specialist support
- Determine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources

**Support for the School**
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection - reporting any concerns to an appropriate person
- Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school
- Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies and professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support the achievement and progress of the children
- Attend and participate in regular meetings
- Participate in training and other learning activities as requested
- Supervise children on visits and other out of school activities as required

**Hours**: Monday - Friday, 8:30am until 3:30pm

**Salary**: National Minimum Wage for Apprentice

**Skills and Knowledge useful to the post**
- Knowledge of the National Curriculum
- Good ICT skills
- Knowledge of, ability to understand and talk about intervention programmes and assessment
- Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
- A good understanding of how children learn
- Ability to adapt teaching to meet pupils needs
- Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils
- Good understanding of and ability to support the teaching of phonics
- Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children
- Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies
