In executing this responsibility, the lead for GEM will be supported by other members of the MBChB programme teams with related responsibilities, including the associate programme directors for the MBChB To achieve this, the roles and responsibilities of the Academic Lead are: 1. To lead the Academic Teaching and Learning team for GEM. The team will be established as the GEM is implemented, but will develop to include a core team of the lead, an academic lecturer, clinical teaching fellows, administrators and others involved with the delivery of the programme 2.

To prepare a programme of teaching, clinical experience and assessments for the GEM pathway that will ensure the GEM outcomes are achieved in line with the programme and GMC requirements. 3. Develop, maintain, and assure the theoretical content of GEM learning (online cases and Themed Case Discussions) remains of the highest standard and aligned to the educational methodology of the programme. 4.

Liaise with the Director of Undergraduate Medical Studies and the Associate Programme Director for Teaching and Learning and our Clinical Education Partners to ensure timetabling requirements and all other teaching resource needs are identified for GEM teaching and learning 5. Identify, enlist and prepare teachers and tutors to deliver the GEM content. Lead in the identification and provision of staff development relevant to the delivery of the GEM. 6.

Ensure that handbooks and other learning resources relevant to the GEM are updated annually, in line with changing curriculum needs, and that such revisions are completed on time for review and reproduction. 7. Undertake annual reviews after the end of each cycle of delivery identifying areas for development and enhancement, taking into account programme requirement, student and tutor feedback. 8.

Respond to evaluation & student feedback through the quality assurance processes of the programme 9. Respond to student and/or tutor enquiries and issues relating to GEM 10. Provide immediate support to students when they approach you and signpost further support services available to the student 11. Be known and identifiable to the students 12.

Contribute to teaching on the GEM and 5-year programmes, both generally (for example as themed case discussion facilitator, clinical skills tutor or Academic advisor) and according to their area of specialist knowledge 13. Contribute to other programme development and enhancement activities as appropriate 14. Contribute to student meetings and events relating to programme development and enhancement. Meetings To ensure the effective delivery of the GEM, the GEM lead will establish and chair a GEM Operational Working Group.

The GEM lead will also be a member of the Programme Leadership Team and the Programme Teaching and Learning Group (TLG) and will be expected to attend these meetings regularly. Attendance at other relevant school management meetings, including progression and examination boards will be expected as required by the programme.
