About The Role
**Location**: Eastleigh
**Days & Hours**:Average of 8 hours per week over 2 days, Monday-Friday, typical hours would be 11am-3pm but days and times are flexible and are arranged one month in advance. For a day trip, 6 hours may be required, so scope for additional hours, by prior arrangement on occasions according to the needs of Sam.
**Pay**: Weekday: £11.50 per hour / Weekend: £12.50 per hour
**Driver required?** Essential
**Driving Clients Car? **Yes, but should you be using your own car, a mileage would be paid
**Using Own Vehicle for work purposes?** Yes, On duty and to attend trainings
**Essential**:Supporting adults with confidence building
**Desirable**: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy
Sam is a young man born in 1992, who suffered a spinal injury in his mid teens following surgery to correct a spinal deformity. This injury resulted in reduced functional use of the lower half of his body. He uses a wheelchair for mobility and is independent in personal care and transfers. Sam is originally form Punjab, but has lived in England since he was 7 years old. He is fluent in English and also speaks Punjabi.**Overview**
- Sam requires a Support Worker/Buddy to enable him to access social and leisure pursuits outside of the home independently of his family. An interest in motor sports, cricket, film and music would be beneficial. Activities typically might include shopping, cinema and bowling, and may in the future include sports based activities and occasional longer day trips. A full clean driving licence is essential.Sam can lack confidence, so requires a confident, supportive and responsible person to support him to increase his independence.
**Pay and Benefits**:
Weekday: £11.50 per hour / Weekend: £12.50 per hour
On-going training & support provided
5.6 weeks annual leave pro rata
Free DBS check.
**In order to promote continuity of our high care standards, you will be offered**:

- Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
- Confident about working in Sam's own home and other locations and sensitive to his needs and wishes.
- The ability to learn new skills and happy to learn new things in accordance with the Sam's programme.
- Flexible - to alter the planned activities if necessary - able to use own initiative.
- Patient and tolerant with a responsible and positive attitude.
- Proactive, encouraging and consistent approach.
- Cheerful and caring with a good sense of humour.
- Reliable, trustworthy and a good communicator with a basic understanding of the principles of rehabilitation.
- Proactive approach to developing an appropriate range of activities and willing to participate in a variety of outdoor/ rural activities.
- Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect Sam and their family's need for privacy.
- Able to keep own record of hours worked and to attend supervision, as required.
- Flexible with start and finish times according to the needs of Sam.
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills and confident using IT.
- Full clean driving licence and able to transport Sam in your car.
