Independent Advocate

Empowerment is looking to recruit a passionate individual to work as an Independent Advocate alongside very vulnerable adults who are eligible for statutory advocacy, as part of our Blackpool Advocacy Hub Team.

Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services they need. Advocates work in partnership with the people they support and take their side. Advocacy promotes social inclusion, equality and social justice.

Within the role of Independent Advocate you will be working across the different advocacy types listed below.
- Care Act Advocacy
- Health Complaints Advocacy
- Relevant Persons Representative for people on a Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
- Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)
- Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)

The key tasks of this role include
- To provide high quality support on the frontline to very vulnerable adults who have been assessed to be eligible for statutory Advocacy provision.
- To develop safe and trusting relationships with the people engaging with our support.
- To be flexible and to deliver face to face advocacy support as and when needed by the people we serve to access health and social care in various settings to include acute mental health units, hospital wards, care homes, nursing homes and peoples own homes.
- To complete case notes and report writing to a high quality standard.
- To advocate for individuals within a variety of meetings relating to their care and treatment, to include ward rounds, case conferences, Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings, mental health assessments, best interest meetings and safeguarding meetings.
- High quality communication skills (written and verbal), including the production of written reports.
- A passion to develop positive and trusting relationships with vulnerable people.
- A commitment to ensuring the voices of those rarely listened to are genuinely heard.
- The ability to recognise the unique potential in everyone they work alongside.
- The ability to be kind, challenge injustice and work for equality for all.
- Excellent case note and report writing skills.

**Interviews for this vacancy will take place on the 9th & 10th May 2024 and will also involve a short writing task.**

Pay: £23,150.40 per year
