Head of Transport Planning, 3 Month Ftc

The Head of Transport Planning leads the planning teams across the two B&Q home delivery networks, working alongside the site operations teams to ensure the efficient plans are effectively implemented to ensure high service levels.
This is a fixed term contract for 3 months (with a view to extending dependant on circumstances).
**Duties and responsibilities**
- Responsible for the day to day management of planning, via Paragon, the two Home Delivery fleets in line with forecasted volumes and lead times to ensure the delivery of the customer proposition in the most cost efficient manner
- Responsible for the day to day management of the Order Management team, including Managing Escalations, Express orders, Pallet transfers, Store revamps & range reviews, administering claims on behalf of the Home Delivery network and agreeing compensation in line with B&Q guidelines
- Responsible for the Central planning Budget of circa £3.5m, and the overall accountability of circa 56 FTE, including the DSV team
- The Central Planning Manager will support the Contract General Manager in providing operational leadership in all aspects of planning the Home delivery fleet and providing the MI reports / information required to achieve this
- Working collaboratively within the Home Delivery network and the wider B&Q and Wincanton organisations, to build the Paragon planning strategy to achieve long-term business objectives
- Continuous improvement mindset to identify and highlight any areas of opportunity to reduce fleet and costs and improve service
- Developing and presenting business performance reports, trend analysis and insight to fleet efficiencies, utilisation and conformance to the plan, to the customer and the Operational teams - including financials, KPI metrics and opportunities (e.g. DPVD, MPO, CPD, )
- Lead the transport operations on capacity vs requirements, leading discussions with the leadership team on tactics to address impacts, opportunities, issues & challenges
- Control of the Store van fleet and fuels cards, and 3rd party management of the vehicle provider
- Managing the Carriers relationship (costs and service levels), assisting B&Q with carrier projects and SLAs
**Experience, Skills, and Attributes**
- Previous experience working and planning in Paragon, at a Network or Multi-Site level, preferably home delivery, with strong people skills
- Proven experience presenting, reporting and communicating to a senior management audience
- Proactive with a can-do attitude and agile mind-set, with the ability to form strong working relationships with all levels of the organisation
- Comfortable working on your own initiative in a fast-paced, complex and dynamic environment with significant change, ambiguity and adapting to evolving requirements
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, to be able to “connect the dots” and approach issue resolution with a “forward-looking” view to anticipate and address problems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent written, oral, listening and presentational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and influence at all levels
- Employee base is flexible but must be available to be in Branston on a regular basis within the week, and as and when required. Occasional travel around the wider network will be required
