The Associate Director for Quality governance and Safety is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate governance arrangements exist to safeguard the quality of the systems and processes that contribute to the care of patients. The post-holder is responsible for ensuring systems and processes are in place for achieving and reporting on the Trust’s performance against internal and external national standards for quality, safety and performance targets.

Oversight of IRMER processes and Radiation Safety

- Lead the development and implementation of focused safety and improvement programmes to reduce avoidable harm and reduce clinical risk.
- Develop effective feedback mechanisms which are employed throughout the Trust to ensure that the staff, patient and relative voice is heard and appropriate concerns are acted upon.
- Meet national guidelines and requirements, and regulatory compliance across functions within this portfolio.
- Provide highly visible leadership on safety throughout the Trust. Design and refine the Trust’s safety walkabout programme and summarise findings and propose actions for consideration of director colleagues for improvement. Foster a culture throughout the organisation which values openness and a problem-sensing approach to spur further improvements.
- Empower clinical staff to use safety data to achieve excellence in the delivery of care
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on a wide range of topics, providing advice on internal processes and requirements
- Develop administrative systems and process within the Department, advising team members on implementation where required
- Ensure that Trust groups are able to meet in line with Trust statutory requirements
- Creating a culture and environment in which quality, and continuous quality improvement are embedded at all levels within the organisation to ensure the delivery of high quality,

**The post-holder will be responsible for**:

- The delivery of the Trust’s Quality Assurance Strategy and Quality Accounts
- Compliance with Care Quality Commissions regulatory standards
- Supporting the Trust’s Governance and Risk Committees/Boards including Quality Committee, and Executive Boards to ensure they fulfil their crucial scrutiny and assurance remit
- Embedding a culture of organisational learning from all adverse events including mortality reviews, serious incidents, Inquests and claims, complaints, plaudits and audits.
- Developing, embedding and driving improvements in the patient safety
- Driving Outcomes thorough Clinical Effectiveness agenda (including the organisation’s response to the National Patient Safety Strategy and the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework)
