Responsible to: IT Services Manager
Job Summary:
This role requires the post holder to be responsible for owning and managing the delivery of a number of concurrent IT-based projects in support of the digital strategy. As a Project Manager you will be expected to own specific projects throughout their lifecycle,providing leadership and managing the delivery of consistent and high-quality project deliverables.
Duties Include:
- Managing a number of concurrent projects from initiation through the project lifecycle to completion.
- The determination of sub-projects, sequencing and phasing for the project specific deliverables.
- Plan, estimate and schedule resource requirements at a project level.
- Collaborate with external consultants on the planning and delivery of the project.
- Be accountable for the delivery of the technology elements of the projects in accordance with the relevant governance structure.
- Management of the project's specific deliverables to the time, cost and quality requirements using the standard project management methodologies, and where relevant ensuring achievement of the overall business objectives and benefits.
- Manage the expectations of all key stakeholders including the project's sponsor and ensure the quality of the delivery.
- Manage suppliers / third parties to cost, time, quality and contractual expectation in order to ensure delivery to targets.
- Manage project risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies proactively, including the development of contingency plans, and implement effective change control.
- Provide timely and effective reporting to the Project Board and key stakeholders.
- Ensure that resources required for successful delivery of the project are requested and effectively utilised.
- Create and maintain detailed work plans for the project portfolio, including but not limited to: implementation plans; transition to business as usual; overall portfolio planning of supply vs demand and resource forecasts, to help inform senior stakeholdersof the optimum prioritisation decisions they may make.
- Contribute to the development and evolution of the project lifecycle and associated delivery methodologies.
- Represent the department on internal and external bodies as required.
Experience Required
- Extensive proven experience of project management experience with both a customer and commercial focus.
- Extensive proven experience of managing projects that have delivered significant technology change, and consequently required business change management and benefits realisation.
- The ability to manage multiple projects of varying scale and complexity at any one time.
- Experience of different project lifecycles, project management methodologies, tools and techniques.
- Experience in managing a wide range of IT technical projects including system development, third party product/package implementation and technical infrastructure.
- Experience of tendering, supplier selection and procurement.
- Experience in managing project budgets, including business case technology elements, staff costs, contractor costs, expenses and hardware and software purchases including monthly forecasting, accruals and reporting.
Desirable Factors
- Project management practitioner or equivalent accredited status.
- Knowledge of IT Service Management standards (e.g. ITIL).
- Strong planner with solid working knowledge of project management tools - e.g. MSP / HPPM.
