We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our department. This is a substantive full time post in Neurosurgery and in conjunction with six neurosurgical consultant colleagues; the post holder will provide a comprehensive neurosurgical service to UHNM. The Neurosurgical department runs alongside a separate Spinal Team, with whom we work closely. We are part of a Major Trauma Centre and provide an adult Neurosurgical service that serves the population of Staffordshire, Shropshire, South Cheshire and North Wales.
We are a dynamic unit which has undergone a significant period of growth and development in recent years. Within the department we have well established sub-specialisation. We are looking for someone who is willing to engage with our strong team ethos.
They will have experience in general cranial neurosurgery and non-complex spinal surgery. They will also be expected to have a sub-speciality interest in neuro-oncology to help reinforce and develop our existing service.
The trust consists of two sites, the larger Royal Stoke University hospital and the smaller County hospital situated in Stafford. The £350 million state-of-the-art hospital complex at the Royal Stoke site opened in March 2013 bringing all acute services (including Neurosurgery, Trauma and Cardiothoracic Surgery) to a single site. The Department offers modern facilities including state of the art diagnostics and Laminar flow theatres across the two sites.
You will take responsibility for the inpatient and outpatient care of neurosurgical patients including the provision of emergency cranial surgery and care. You may also manage and be responsible for the care of patients with non-complex spinal disorders in partnership with other Neurosurgical and Spinal colleagues.
You may be required to participate in the education and training of medical students, junior doctors, nursing and other professionals allied to medicine. You may be involved in the supervision and teaching of medical students attached to the department. With the development of the Keele Medical School, excellent opportunities exist for greater involvement in teaching in many different areas of the undergraduate curriculum.
You will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. All Consultants are involved in planning and developing the service.
