Sheffield, United Kingdom University of Sheffield Full time

The Department of Geography has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as Postdoctoral Research Fellow to help deliver a prestigious new research project.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), in collaboration with the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) of the UK Government, has awarded a large research grant to be led out of the Department of Geography and the Institute for Sustainable Food at The University of Sheffield (TUoS). This award will fund a stream of research to be conducted on food markets in India led by TUoS with partner teams led by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Indian School of Business (ISB), as well as personnel from other project partners.

This exciting opportunity will comprise 3.75 years (45 months) and calls for a person with a record of achievement and experience relevant to the economics of food consumption and nutrition in low and middle-income contexts. The role will involve providing leadership to elements of the project’s research agenda, and working in close collaboration with other researchers as well as implementing partners.

The appointee will be involved in multiple strands of the project, and the work agenda will include collection and analysis of primary data, and design, implementation and analysis aspects of research relating to pilot-scale interventions as well as a Randomised Control Trial.

Responsibilities will include carrying out fieldwork and coordinating fieldwork and data collection and managing data collection at study sites in India and you will spend significant spells of time in the field. The appointee will mentor and guide junior researchers in the team and lead the preparation of high-quality scientific outputs from the research.

We are committed to enabling our employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
