**Part time: 21/hrs a week**

Akton recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for an experienced Positive Behaviour Support Worker in the Southwark area. A valid DBS is required for this role. 3 - 6 months contract.

**Responsibilities**
1. To undertake assessments and create effective support plans.

2. To undertake direct work with service users and their families/carers and/or support workers to implement the support plan and behaviour intervention methods.

3. To promote access to social, leisure and education opportunities to enrich service users quality of life.

4. To communicate effectively and sensitively with service users, parents, carers and professionals regardless of their spoken language or communication skills e.g visual supports.

5. To have an understanding of and be able to identify safeguarding concerns, undertake risk assessments, escalate and take appropriate action in line with the council's policies and protocols.

6. To exercise professional responsibility for the assessment and intervention with service users; working alongside other professionals in the multi-disciplinary team.

7. To maintain a good working relationship with other members of the multi-disciplinary network and ensure effective communication through good verbal communication skills, the production of professional reports and attendance at multi-disciplinary meetings.

**Knowledge, including educational qualifications**:
1. Knowledge of clinical frameworks of Applied Behavioural Analysis and Positive Behavioural Support
2. Knowledge of disabilities and the impact they can have on individuals' lives
3. Knowledge of legislation, statutory guidance and the social work and care management practice, particularly relating to safeguarding practice
4. Knowledge and awareness of issues relating to communities from diverse backgrounds
5. PBS qualification (e.g. BTEC Level 4 Professional Certificate in Positive Behaviour Support) or equivalent professional or lived experience

**Experience**:
6. Experience of formulating and implementing support plans and behaviour interventions and strategies
7. Experience of using person centred approaches to enable service users to achieve their goals, outcomes and maximise their independence
8. Experience of working with children and young people / adults with learning disability and/or autism who display behaviour that challenges.
9. Experience of working with a wide variety of professionals and agencies to enable children and/or adults to achieve outcomes and maximise their independence
10. An awareness of the risks associated with disability and the ability to use this knowledge to safeguard disabled children. Recognise and report any concerns about the welfare of a child promptly in line with Southwark's guidance on safeguarding children.
