The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) is a community benefit society and cooperative working to develop healthy, happy communities living active and connected lives. We provide a wide range of services and programmes that support people’s mental and physical wellbeing. Services include community food support, telephone advice and listening services, physical and social activity programmes, social prescribing services and community development and engagement programmes. We also run virtual wellbeing support programmes for patients and citizens.

This role is responsible for the coordination and delivery of internal and external outreach food. The role will require excellent delivery and engagement skills on the ground with communities and key stakeholders. As well as coordinating and actioning requests in a timely manner, there will be the requirement to take the lead on cooking for the events so a high level of cooking ability and experience in cooking in volume and for diverse communities is required.

Main duties

1. Lead on the coordination and delivery of both internal and external outreach food requests 2. Respond to internal and external requests for food support at events within a timely manner (2 working days) and ensure that the necessary planning for these events is actioned on time.

3. Work proactively with other areas of the organisation and other partners to ensure that where possible, a food offer is delivered in conjunction and to compliment other forms of delivery e.g. share shacks; community delivery.

4. Work with the Big Feed team lead to ensure that the equipment, ingredients and kitchen capacity for the outreach catering are planned for in advance so that all other food activities can continue as planned.

5. Responsible for the overall catering requirements for events, working with The Big Feed team lead in advance to ensure, if required, there is capacity in the wider team to support with cooking or event delivery.

6. Ensure the correct use of TAWS processes and systems when using assets and procuring. Ensure that citizens receive a good quality experience.

7. Forward planning and managing resources to ensure quality delivery.

8. Ensure that all food safety and health and safety requirements are complied with on a consistent basis including updated risk assessments which are kept live.

9. Management of the Catering Trailer; driving the trailer to and from events will be part of this role as will responsibility for flagging up any issues and making sure it’s safe and fit for purpose.

10. Managing relationships with key stakeholders and partners to support delivery. Work with the team and wider organisation to support and develop communities within the city, especially those that are the most deprived, and/or the least active.

11. Ensure that all data is captured consistently as outlined by our Knowledge and Insights Team to contribute to our theory of change for our food work, including putting forward case studies.

12. Manage budgets and contracts effectively in conjunction with the Food Delivery Manager. Partnership management: ensure that new relationships are sought.

13. Seek out the unusual suspects. Work with partners from other sectors.

Knowledge, skills and experience

1. Knowledge and experience of cooking and delivering quality food on a large scale to diverse communities

2. Experience and understanding of community development principles, ideally through the medium of food

3. Experience of working with waste and surplus food providers

4. Qualified to at least level 3 food and hygiene

5. Experience of working to provide food in an outreach capacity

6. Driving licence

7. Willingness to drive large vans and tow a trailer

8. Excellent partnership working and relationship management skills

9. Execllent organisational and administrative skills

10. Ability and willingness to use the Microsoft 365 package

11. Knowledge of the barriers that exist to physical activity

12. Track record of working autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast paced and challenging environment

13. Ability to plan, prioritise, achieve targets and deliver to deadlines

14. Experience in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders from varying sectors

15. A genuine passion for the wellbeing of others and a drive to improve the lives of individuals and communities
