Offenders are a challenging population group to work with and they often have complex healthcare needs. Offenders often have chaotic lives in the community and a history of poor engagement with community healthcare services. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 STaR (Support Time Recovery) worker working within the Mental Health team at HMP Channings Wood

The post holder will provide support and clinical input to the HMP Channings Wood team. HMP Channings Wood mental health team provides counselling and psychology services, providing group and individual support and psychotherapeutic groups to prisoners.

With excellent communication skills and a confident, competent presentation you will be responsible for ensuring the provision of excellent mental health services to offenders in the prison.

Oxleas offers a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people in community and secure environment settings. Our services include community health care such as district nursing and speech and language therapy, care for people with learning disabilities and mental health care such as psychiatry, nursing and therapies. Our multidisciplinary teams look after people of all ages and we work in close partnership with other parts of the NHS, local councils and the voluntary sector and through our new provider collaboratives. Our 4,300 members of staff work in many different settings including hospitals, clinics, prisons, secure hospitals, children’s centres, schools and people’s homes.

**We are also looking for**:
- Experience of working within secure & prison settings (desirable)
- Working knowledge of current issues/agendas facing prison/offender healthcare
- Evidence of post registration professional development where applicable (desirable)
- A keen interest in peer worker/service-user involvement schemes

There will be opportunities to develop clinically in line with service demand.

Healthcare services, inclusive of mental health services, within prisons can be busy and pressured environments. The successful post holders should therefore have developed an ability to work under pressured conditions and be able to support others to do the same.

The successful post holder will be required to undergo and pass all prison security requirements as well as all Oxleas employment requirements.
